Job summary

Argo Natural Resources is seeking a Senior Mining Engineer to lead the technical services function at New Burton. You will provide strategic direction across mine planning, scheduling, surveying and geology, driving plans to meet production targets with compliance to regulatory and environmental obligations.

The role requires extensive open cut coal mining experience, strong leadership of technical teams, and a deep understanding of mine design and production planning.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
• Extensive experience in open cut coal mining with strong planning leadership.
• Desirable: First Class Mine Manager’s Certification.
• Strong knowledge of mine design, scheduling and production planning.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and engage across leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical services function across mine planning, scheduling, surveying, geology and tech support.
• Develop short-, medium-, and long-term mine plans to improve performance.
• Coordinate with operations leaders to meet production targets and regulatory commitments.
• Ensure environmental obligations and business objectives are integrated.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

Lead the technical services function at New Burton, providing strategic direction across mine planning, engineering, scheduling, surveying, geology and technical support to deliver safe, efficient and commercially sustainable coal extraction. Working closely with operational leaders, you’ll drive short-, medium- and long-term mine planning, optimise mine performance and ensure delivery aligns with production targets, statutory requirements, environmental obligations and business objectives.

ABOUT YOU

• Tertiary qualification in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.
• Extensive experience in open cut coal mining operations, with a strong background in mine planning and technical services leadership.
• First Class Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency (Desirable)
• Strong understanding of open cut mine design, scheduling and production planning.
• Proven ability to lead, develop and engage high‑performing technical teams.
• Sound knowledge of Queensland coal mining legislation and regulatory requirements.
• Strong commercial, analytical and problem‑solving capability.
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with operational and senior leadership teams.
• Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
