Job summary

Argo Natural Resources is seeking a hands-on Health, Safety & Training leader based at Ironbark No. 1 in Queensland. You will drive health, safety and training programs, ensuring systems and compliance are robust and effective across operations.

You’ll lead risk management, incident investigations and continuous improvement, advancing a strong safety culture with frontline engagement and tangible outcomes.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years’ Health, Safety & Training management experience in coal mining; underground experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Queensland coal mining legislation and SHMS requirements.
• Tertiary OHS qualification with coal mining risk and compliance experience.
• Internal Auditor qualification and experience.
• Experience with formal risk assessment methodologies including Bow‑Tie, HAZOP and WRAC.

Responsibilities

• Oversee health, safety and training management and ensure effective systems.
• Ensure compliance obligations are met and workers are trained to work safely.
• Lead incident investigations and implement corrective actions.
• Influence at all levels to turn safety strategy into operational outcomes.
• Manage contractor safety, emergency preparedness and risk management.

ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to theGeneral Manager/SSE, you’ll take a lead role across health, safety and training, ensuring our systems are effective, our compliance obligations are met, and our people are equipped to work safely and effectively.

You’ll oversee and continuously improve key areas includingsafety and health systems, risk management, training and competency, occupational hygiene, contractor management, emergency preparedness and legal compliance.

This is a hands‑on leadership opportunity for someone who caninfluence at all levels, challenge the status quo and turn safety strategy into meaningful operational outcomes.

ABOUT YOU

• Minimum 5 years’ Health, Safety & Training management experience in coal mining; underground experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Queensland coal mining legislation and SHMS requirements.

• Ability to build a positive safety culture where workers feel comfortable reporting hazards and concerns.
• Demonstrated ability to consistently apply safety standards across employees, contractors and management.
