Job summary

Data & Knowledge Enterprise in Brisbane seeks a Product Manager to own AI use cases end to end, collaborating with business sponsors, operations, IT and data teams to ensure practical, scalable solutions.

About us

We build and deliver AI products for industrial organisations: manufacturers, resources companies, and the people who keep physical operations running. The work is real. Our products go into environments where a bad decision costs money, time or safety, and where the people using them have no patience for software that does not help.

We work closely with ARM Hub, the Brisbane advanced robotics and manufacturing centre, as their delivery partner. ARM Hub runs Australia's federally funded AI Adopt Centre, which has taken AI adoption work into hundreds of Australian businesses, and we deliver alongside them. That gives this role something most product jobs do not have: access to a steady flow of real industrial problems across manufacturing, mining, energy and food production, and a research network across Queensland's universities and CSIRO sitting behind the work.

The role

You will own AI use cases end to end. That means sitting with a business sponsor to work out what the actual problem is, deciding whether it is worth building, framing it so engineers can build it, getting it in front of real users fast, and then making an honest call on whether it should scale or stop.

You will not be handed a backlog. You will be the person who decides what goes in it.

This is a role for someone who is comfortable being the only person in the room who understands both sides of the conversation: what the business is trying to achieve, and what it will actually take to build. You will spend as much time with operations managers and process owners as with engineers.

What you will do

• Run discovery with clients and users to separate what people ask for from what they need.
• Build quick prototypes with AI coding tools to test an idea in front of a client within days rather than weeks.
• Write the use case definitions, success criteria and solution documentation that engineers, architects and governance reviewers work from.
• Make the call on whether a use case proceeds, needs more work, or should be stopped, and defend that call with evidence.
• Carry solutions past go-live: watch how they perform, notice when they stop being useful, and say so.
• Work alongside client stakeholders across business, IT, data and security to keep things moving through approval processes without losing months to them.

What we are looking for

• Stakeholder leadership. You are the single point of contact for sponsors, users and governance forums. You keep everyone pointed at the same outcome, bring reviewers in early rather than presenting to them cold, and surface risk in plain language before it becomes a problem. You own the result, not the process.
• Problem discovery. You get close enough to users to tell the difference between the request and the need. You can describe a problem clearly without naming a solution in the same breath. You find out early whether the people who would use something actually want it.
• Prototyping. You can put a working mock in front of a client in a day or two using AI coding tools. Not because the artefact matters, but because people cannot react to a requirements document and will tell you within thirty seconds what is wrong with a screen. You are also disciplined enough to throw a prototype away and to never let one be mistaken for a product.
• Prioritisation and trade-offs. You make calls on incomplete information and explain your reasoning. You know what is being given up with every yes. You can recommend stopping something a sponsor is attached to and say why in a way they can accept.
• Written communication. Your specs and decision notes can be picked up cold by a new engineer and acted on. Clear acceptance criteria, ambiguity flagged rather than buried. If a document needs a meeting to be understood, it is not finished.
• Data literacy. You define success metrics before the build. You can interrogate data yourself rather than waiting on an analyst for every question, and you know the difference between a metric moving and a metric mattering.
• Technical depth. Enough to hold a real conversation with engineers about architecture, data flows and model behaviour, and to know when an approach is expensive, fragile or slow. You are not a builder and we are not asking you to be. You do need to be able to test what engineers tell you and carry it to the business accurately.

Useful but not required

Experience in manufacturing, mining, energy or another industrial setting. Familiarity with Databricks or the Microsoft AI stack. A background in engineering, data or delivery consulting.
