Job summary

Whizdom seeks a Technical Lead (OpenShift) to provide leadership and hands-on support in a Defence ICT environment based in Canberra. You will drive design, implementation, sustainment and capability uplift across secure platforms.

This role requires strong enterprise IT experience, hands-on skills across OpenShift, VMware, Windows Server, Active Directory and security technologies, with a focus on reliable, scalable infrastructure and governance.

Qualifications

• At least 10 years' experience in ICT engineering, systems administration, technical leadership or related discipline.
• Experience operating within complex enterprise ICT environments.
• Proven experience leading technical teams and engineering activities.
• Strong troubleshooting across multiple infrastructure technologies.
• Experience in Defence or other classified Australian Government ICT environments.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across enterprise ICT platforms and services.
• Act as the senior escalation point for complex issues and engineering challenges.
• Lead governance, technical assurance and risk management activities.
• Support design, implementation and optimisation of secure, resilient infrastructure solutions.
• Lead technical change initiatives, upgrades and technology refresh.

• Drive problem management, root cause analysis and continuous improvement.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Technical Lead to provide technical leadership, engineering oversight and hands‑on support across a complex Defence ICT environment.

Working closely with engineers, project teams and key stakeholders, you will act as the senior technical authority responsible for driving technical outcomes across design, implementation, sustainment, troubleshooting and capability uplift initiatives. This role requires a broad infrastructure background and the ability to provide leadership across multiple technology domains while remaining hands‑on when required.

Role Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across enterprise ICT platforms and associated services.
• Act as the senior escalation point for complex technical issues, incidents and engineering challenges.

Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:

• At least 10 years' experience in ICT engineering, systems administration, technical leadership or a related discipline.

• Proven experience leading technical teams and engineering activities.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills across multiple infrastructure technologies.
• Experience working within Defence or other classified Australian Government ICT environments.
