Job summary

Aus Ships Group is seeking an experienced Technical Draftsperson to join Australia's leading maritime design and manufacturing team in Brisbane. You will produce accurate 2D drawings and 3D models, coordinate with Technical Managers and Production teams, and drive technical documentation to a high standard.

The role of the Technical Draftsperson is to ensure that design drawings and technical deliverables are completed as requested by Technical team members, to a high standard and in an efficient manner.

You will have the ability to work independently and in a team environment, have strong communication skills, disciplined work ethics and a strong commitment to the Company and its productivity.

You will support the Technical Manager, Naval Architects, Technical Draftspersons and Production teams by providing timely, accurate and sufficient technical information as requested and required.

You will have the ability to communicate with the technical and production teams at all levels.

You will exhibit and demonstrate your proven ability in design drafting, technical documentation preparation as well as both 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional computer modelling techniques.

What You'll Be Doing

• Document, implement and lead the continuous improvement of work instructions and safe work
• Maintain detailed knowledge of current design tasks and project schedules as they relate to your specific tasks
• Liaise with the Technical Manager, Naval Architects and Technical Draftspersons on a daily/weekly basis regarding technical requirements, objectives, priorities and schedule
• Maintain & operate systems in accordance with company policies and procedures as they relate to the role
• Participate in the continuous improvement of technical standards, work instructions and quality systems as requested by senior staff
• Maintain compliance with WH&S standards, quality control and quality assurance systems and procedures
• Actively participate in the research and development of new and existing products and services
• Actively participate in the development of improved design, drafting and manufacturing.
• Perform other duties as directed from time to time.
• Interpret and work in accordance with relevant Company Policies and Procedures, State and Federal Legislation and regulations.
• Display at all times behaviour and presentation that contributes to a co-operative, successful and professional team.

About You

We're looking for someone who is technically capable, motivated and enjoys taking ownership of their work.

You’ll ideally bring:

• Demonstrates experience in the technical drafting and design, engineering and consulting sectors of commercial, defence and private vessels
• Proficiency in AutoCAD & Rhino3D Software
• Awareness of the maritime regulatory environment including flag state and classification society protocols and requirements.
• Knowledge, understanding and application of workplace health and safety requirements
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Effective oral, written and interpersonal skills with effective problem solving, including the ability to foresee and resolve problems of a technical nature.
• Ability to communicate at all levels of industry including dealing with challenging personalities in a positive, unbiased and professional manner
• Flexibility in approach to work, and open to adopting new improved work practices with a high level of initiative, and self-motivation

Working Hours

This is a full-time position on 6‑month contract based primarily at our Brisbane design studio, with regular travel to client sites and vessels as required.

Standard hours are Monday to Friday.

This position reports directly to the Technical Manager and Lead Naval Architect.
