Job summary

Sutherland Shire Council is seeking a Technical and Contracts Specialist to oversee contracts supporting Civil Works and Presentation. You will ensure compliance with contractual obligations, safety standards, and performance expectations while promoting continual improvement.

The role focuses on contractor documentation, compliance, and risk management across the contract lifecycle, with collaboration across teams to drive improvements and mitigate risks.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field.
• Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
• Proven ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulations, and policies effectively.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.
• Desirable qualifications include experience in procurement, safety, and project management, as well as familiarity with general conditions of contract.

About The Role

The Technical and Contracts Specialist will oversee the management of contracts supporting the construction and maintenance teams in the Civil Works and Presentation business unit. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with all contractual obligations, safety standards, and performance expectations while promoting a culture of continual improvement.

Key responsibilities include managing contractor documentation, compliance, performance, and risk throughout the contract lifecycle. You will coordinate audits, performance reviews, and address non-compliance issues, while also collaborating with internal teams to drive improvements and manage risks effectively.

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in contract management within local government, demonstrating extensive experience in project management and operational oversight.

• Tertiary qualification in Business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field.
• Current Class C Driver’s Licence.
• Proven ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulations, and policies effectively.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and influence stakeholders.

We are looking for a candidate who excels in organisational and time management skills, possesses emotional intelligence, and can approach and resolve disputes constructively. Desirable qualifications include experience in procurement, safety, and project management, as well as familiarity with general conditions of contract.

• Package: $111,776 - $124,574 gross p.a. plus 12% superannuation.
• Hours of work: Permanent Full Time. You will have the option of a 19 day month through Council’s flex system.
