Job summary

MidCoast Council in Tea Gardens seeks a practical, hands-on Team Member Maintenance to deliver maintenance, cleaning and minor construction across council public spaces. You’ll work in parks, reserves, sports fields and cemeteries, ensuring facilities are safe, functional and welcoming for the community.

This role demands autonomous work planning, good communication and a strong commitment to safety. A NSW Class C licence and WHS induction are preferred, with pre‑employment medical checks

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of parks and reserves maintenance and construction techniques.
• Hands-on experience in building maintenance incl. concreting, painting, carpentry and tiling; basic plumbing/electrical understanding.
• Ability to work autonomously and plan with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Current NSW Class C Driver Licence or higher.

Responsibilities

• Undertake construction, installation, maintenance and repair of open space assets (playgrounds, tables, benches, walls).
• Carry out maintenance and cleaning across parks, reserves, sports fields and cemeteries (BBQs, pools, facilities).
• Conduct routine inspections, identify defects and hazards, report or act on issues.
• Operate and maintain plant, vehicles, tools and equipment per safe work procedures.
• Plan, prioritise and complete work orders with minimal supervision.

This role is responsible for general maintenance, minor repairs and routine inspections of Council assets, helping ensure facilities are safe, functional and meet community expectations. The Opportunity

We are seeking a practical and motivated individual to deliver maintenance, cleaning and minor construction works across Council's public spaces in the Tea Gardens area.

This role is responsible for general maintenance, minor repairs and routine inspections of Council assets, helping ensure facilities are safe, functional and meet community expectations. You'll work across a range of environments, including parks, reserves, sports fields and cemeteries, with a focus on safe, effective and efficient service delivery.

In this role, you will

• Undertake construction, installation, maintenance and repair of open space assets, including playgrounds, picnic tables, benches and retaining walls.
• Carry out maintenance and cleaning across parks, reserves, sports fields and cemeteries, including BBQs, public pools, picnic facilities and amenities.
• Conduct routine inspections, identify defects and hazards, and report or action issues as appropriate.
• Operate and maintain plant, vehicles, tools and equipment in accordance with training, licences, safe work procedures and Council requirements.
• Plan, prioritise and complete work orders through Council systems with minimal supervision.
• Complete work records, inspection reports and maintenance requests accurately using Council systems.
• Proactively report issues and defects and provide information relevant to daily operations.
• Work safely and comply with WHS and environmental requirements and procedures.
• Build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and deal with members of the public in a professional and courteous manner.
• Report incidents, injuries and near misses within required timeframes and demonstrate personal accountability for safety.

What you'll bring

• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in parks and reserves maintenance and construction techniques.
• Experience in building maintenance and general hands-on experience in concreting, painting, carpentry and tiling, with a basic understanding of plumbing and electrical principles.
• The ability to work autonomously, prioritise work and operate with minimum supervision.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to develop constructive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
• A current NSW Class C Driver Licence or higher.
• A WorkCover-accredited WHS general induction for construction work in NSW, with sound knowledge of WHS procedures and the proper use of tools and equipment.
• A current First Aid Certificate and AQF Level 3 Chemical Certificate, or willingness to obtain these.
• Service Location and Test & Tag Certification, or willingness to obtain.
• The ability to meet the focus capability requirements of the position.

Salary: Commencing salary circa $59,800 p.a. plus superannuation.

Location: This position will be based at our Tea Gardens Depot. You may also be required to be based from other Council sites across the MidCoast Council region.

Tenure: Permanent, Full Time.
