Job description

Applicants from the previous process SS/TCH994510 who were assessed as suitable are not required to reapply.

We are seeking to establish a pool of Language Teachers for permanent and fixed term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2027 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period.

The Role

The School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) delivers Kindergarten to Year 12 (K-12) second language programs in Chinese, French, Indonesian, Italian and Japanese, with a large team of more than 30 language teachers. Our students are predominantly in small regional and remote schools and have a range of diverse cultural backgrounds.

We are seeking highly skilled and enthusiastic language teachers with the capacity to develop and deliver quality languages programs suited to delivery in a distance education context. We are looking for dynamic teachers who will bring classroom energy into our online environment, inspiring and engaging our students around Western Australia and beyond. If you are excited about sharing your passion for language and culture, working collaboratively in a vibrant team environment and immersing yourself in the online teaching and learning space, this could be a role for you.

To be suitable for this role, you should have a qualification to teach one or more of the languages offered at SIDE, thorough understanding of the Western Australian Curriculum: Languages, and experience delivering high quality, effective and engaging programs to language students in a primary and/or lower secondary context. The capacity to teach language courses at Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) level will also be highly regarded. You should embrace the idea of delivering the curriculum through information communication technology (ICT), exhibit innovation and creativity in classroom practices and be able to cater for students with culturally diverse backgrounds and a range of needs and abilities.

School of Isolated and Distance Education

SIDE is a cutting-edge online school that provides a high level of education to children who need additional flexibility. We play a critical role within the Western Australian education system, supporting system needs and priorities.

Our vision is to enhance and expand learning opportunities for Western Australian students, regardless of their circumstances, through high quality, inclusive and culturally responsive educational programs in a blended learning environment, guided by our values of Connection, Courage, Equity, Creativity and Compassion.

As a teacher with SIDE, you will have the opportunity to reach out and make a difference to students throughout Western Australia, delivering high-quality online and blended education programs to suit the varying contexts and needs of our students.

As a recognised leader in blended education in Australia, SIDE models exemplary practice in the use of both synchronous (Webex) and asynchronous (Moodle) platforms of instruction. SIDE has a dedicated training and support program for staff who join our school. Our practice is both contemporary and constantly evolving, making SIDE an exciting and dynamic place to work.

Teachers at SIDE participate in our regional travel program to meet the needs of students and partner schools. Visits are planned in negotiation with staff, and at times may include short-term stays in regional and remote locations.

SIDE has a main campus in Leederville and teaching facilities at Canning College, Clarkson Community High School and Northlake Senior Campus. Teachers based in the metropolitan area may be required to work at any one of these or future venues. SIDE also has teaching facilities at Eaton Community College to accommodate teachers living in the Southwest.
