• Contribute expertise during enrolment by reviewing language/schooling backgrounds, advising on visa requirements and ensuring approvals are obtained.
• Assess listening, speaking, reading and writing against the EAL/D Progress Map to identify appropriate support.
• Collaborate with Statewide Services, build teacher capacity, and communicate with parents and carers about student progress.

Job description

This is a permanent full-time position commencing as soon as possible.

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated English as an Additional Language/Dialect (EAL/D) teacher to join our team and contribute to our culture of high expectations, strong relationships and student success. Join an enthusiastic and highly collaborative team at KBCHS, where you will have the opportunity to teach to your strengths and passions.

This teaching role leads targeted, culturally responsive support for EAL/D students to strengthen their English language development, engagement and academic achievement. The teacher plans and delivers differentiated instruction within the dedicated EAL/D learning space and supports students to access learning in mainstream classrooms. As the school’s EAL/D specialist, the teacher contributes expertise throughout the enrolment process by supporting the use of the current EAL/D Identification and International Enrolment Checklist, reviewing students’ language and schooling backgrounds, advising on visa and TIWA requirements, and ensuring the correct approvals are obtained.

Following enrolment, the teacher assesses students’ listening, speaking, reading and writing skills against the EAL/D Progress Map to identify their correct stage in each language mode and determine appropriate support, including possible School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) EAL/D referral. The role analyzes Progress Map, NAPLAN, OLNA and school-based data to establish goals, monitor progress and evaluate interventions. It also collaborates with Statewide Services, builds teachers’ capacity through practical strategies and resources, and communicates regularly with parents and carers about students’ progress, achievements and changing support needs.

The successful applicant will ideally have the professional knowledge, skills and experience required to deliver an engaging, contemporary and relevant curriculum. You will ideally committed to building positive and productive relationships with students, while working collaboratively with colleagues to improve student engagement, achievement and wellbeing outcomes.

The ability to contribute to the development and implementation of innovative teaching practices, including the effective integration of digital technologies, will be highly regarded. We highly value applicants who are able to work collaboratively to plan, deliver and evaluate high‑quality teaching and learning programs that cater for a diverse range of student needs and abilities.

Mobility appointments for permanent metropolitan and south west teachers

Eligible permanent teachers who hold a substantive teaching position in a North or South Education Region school, or a South West Education Region school* may elect to undertake this role as a 3-year mobility appointment, with a right of return to their substantive position. At the cessation of the 3-year mobility appointment, teachers can elect to return to their substantive role, or transfer permanently into this school.
