Job summary

Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) is seeking a System Planning Engineer to shape Australia's energy system. You will analyse power system performance using PSSE, PSCAD and PowerFactory, contribute to the Integrated System Plan, and develop solutions for a secure and reliable grid.

Based anywhere in Australia’s capitals, you will collaborate with engineers and stakeholders to inform major investments and policy decisions while supporting the ISP and related planning documents.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in engineering or related field.
• Strong ability to perform power-system load-flow and fault-level calculations.
• Experience producing high-quality reports for external stakeholders and management.
• Knowledge of transmission substation design, cost-benefit analysis, and investment decision methods.
• Solid understanding of electrical power systems and control theory.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical support on electricity planning and performance for safe operation of the power system.
• Contribute to planning documents such as the Integrated System Plan and related reports.
• Develop procedures and methodologies for planning studies and related activities.
• Engage with stakeholders and prepare advice and proposals for management.
• Prepare high-quality reports on network capability and performance for project teams.
• Develop knowledge of the electrical transmission network and NEM markets.
