Job description

GT Communications is looking for an experienced Senior Advisor to join our growing, award-winning national team in Sydney.

We're looking for a seasoned communications professional who can think strategically, provide trusted senior counsel, lead client relationships and teams, and still roll up their sleeves to deliver exceptional work.

If you're equally comfortable advising a CEO on a complex reputational issue, coaching an executive ahead of a media interview or picking up the phone to a senior journalist to land a story, we'd love to hear from you.

Working across a diverse portfolio of corporate and consumer clients, you'll lead communications programs spanning sectors including professional services, technology, agriculture, health care, retail, national infrastructure and NDIS providers.

This is an opportunity to play a senior leadership role within a boutique national agency, combining strategic communications, media relations, reputation management, integrated campaigns and commercial account leadership.

Ideally, you'll bring significant senior-level communications experience, preferably within an agency at a Senior Account Director level, with the confidence to lead client accounts, mentor a team and contribute to business growth.

What makes us different?

That’s a great question.Let’s break it down.

We’ve been around for more than two decades, we’re proudly Australian owned, and because we are a boutique agency, we can be choosy about who we work with – clients and colleagues.

Clients tell us they feel like we are part of their team and that we have their back. That’s because it’s true. Our culture is something we’ve spent two decades building, and something each of us carries closely, bringing our values to work every day.

As a team, we expect a lot from each other but that is underpinned by a culture that sets each other up to win.We have radical transparency imbued in our DNA.

Our agency’s strength lies in identifying culturally relevant insights with real social and news currency and transforming them into compelling brand and business stories and content that resonate, travel, and drive conversation across media, social, and key stakeholder audiences.

So, what about the role?

This is a full-time, Sydney-based senior role, working across a national portfolio of clients, with a remuneration package reflecting the experience of the successful candidate.

You’ll work alongside an experienced national leadership team, with the autonomy to drive client strategies, lead teams and influence the continued growth of our agency.

Your responsibilities will include:

Strategic counsel: Advising senior executives and clients on complex communications challenges, corporate positioning and reputation management.

Media relations: Leveraging strong senior media relationships, particularly Tier 1 contacts, while remaining hands-on with proactive pitching and storytelling.

Corporate and consumer communications: Leading integrated communications strategies, campaigns, executive thought leadership and stakeholder engagement.

Crisis and issues management: Providing trusted counsel, strategic advice and communications support during sensitive or complex issues.

Digital and social: Integrating digital and social channels into broader communications strategies to maximise impact.

Executive media training: Coaching and preparing senior leaders for media engagement and challenging interviews.

Team and agency leadership: Managing client relationships, mentoring teams, overseeing budgets, scope, resourcing and profitability, and contributing to new business opportunities.

What will make you successful?

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • Strategy and client leadership: Proven ability to develop strategies, set and deliver KPIs, provide senior counsel and deliver best-in-class account management.
  • Media relations: Strong Tier 1 media relationships, sharp news judgement and a hands-on approach to pitching.
  • Corporate and consumer communications: Strong corporate expertise with experience across consumer brands and diverse sectors.
  • Crisis, issues and problem-solving: Sound judgement, strong problem-solving skills and a calm, considered approach.
  • Digital, content and social: Integrated communications expertise, including content development and production.
  • Media training: Experience coaching senior executives and delivering media training.
  • Agency and people leadership: Proven ability to lead teams, manage budgets, resourcing and profitability, and contribute to business growth.
  • Senior agency experience is highly desirable , although we’ll consider exceptional candidates from other backgrounds. Previous journalism or newsroom experience would be a bonus, particularly when combined with strong strategic and commercial capabilities.

Above all, you’re a confident leader who can balance big-picture thinking with hands-on delivery.

What about workplace structure and other benefits?

GT Communications offers a range of employee benefits, a flexible (though client-focused) approach to work, and a clear career path with opportunities for growth and development.

We invest heavily in our people through regular professional development sessions, team learning opportunities, dedicated training budgets and volunteering programs.

Our Sydney office is based in North Sydney, just a short walk from Milsons Point Station. We have a fantastic office space complete with a podcast studio, pinball machines, a table tennis table, putt-putt golf, a never-ending bowl of lollies and a café downstairs, with plenty of great lunch options nearby.

One last thing from us…

We’re looking for someone who is creative, commercial and curious about the world around them. You understand the news cycle, have sharp media instincts and know how to turn complex issues into compelling stories.

You’re a natural leader who thrives in a high-performance environment, isn’t afraid to roll up your sleeves and get hands-on and enjoys collaborating with colleagues across our Sydney and Perth offices. You bring sound judgement, initiative, a sense of humour and a genuine commitment to delivering great work.

You’re values-driven, enjoy mentoring others and believe great results come from great teams.
