Job summary

GEM Switchboards is seeking a Senior Switchboard Designer to lead and oversee switchboard projects, ensuring designs meet contract requirements, Australian Standards, and GEM quality expectations.

The role requires extensive switchboard design experience, the ability to work independently, and ownership of design deliverables from concept to production. You will coordinate with Production and support Procurement with accurate BOMs and milestones.

Qualifications

• Significant switchboard design experience.
• Ability to take ownership of projects with minimal supervision.
• Electrical Engineering qualification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Complete or oversee the design of switchboards for assigned projects.
• Review scopes, drawings and technical documentation.
• Ensure designs meet Australian Standards, specifications and GEM requirements.
• Resolve design queries and issues.
• Prepare designs and documentation for production.
• Coordinate with Production for clear drawings and build instructions.
• Provide material lists and technical information to Procurement.
• Provide Project Managers with design timelines and milestones.
• Identify design risks, long-lead items and constraints.
• Participate in internal project meetings and design reviews.
• Support quality checks, inspections and FAT processes.
• Maintain accurate drawings, revisions and documentation.
• Contribute to improvements in design standards and templates.

About the Role

The Senior Switchboard Designer will be responsible for designing and overseeing switchboard projects, ensuring designs meet contract requirements, Australian Standards, client specifications and GEM quality expectations.

Key responsibilities include:

• Ensure designs meet Australian Standards, specifications and GEM requirements

• Coordinate with Production to ensure clear drawings and build instructions

• Provide Project Managers with design timelines and technical milestones

This is a technical design role. Our Project Managers manage customer relationships and commercial matters, allowing you to focus on the design and technical requirements of each project.

About You

We are looking for someone with significant switchboard design experience who is confident taking ownership of projects and working with minimal supervision.

You will have:

• Detailed knowledge of AS 3000, AS 61439 and Service and Installation Rules
• Strong knowledge of engineering practice
• AutoCAD LT competency
• Experience with supplier software, including Galaxy and TM Designer
• Excellent planning and organisational skills
• Strong attention to detail and accountability
• The ability to manage multiple projects and work to deadlines
• A systematic and methodical approach to design and project delivery
• The ability to identify and resolve design risks
• A collaborative approach and strong communication skills
• A proactive approach to business and process improvement

An Electrical Engineering qualificationis preferred.
