Job summary

Northern Grampians Shire Council is seeking a casual Swim Teacher to deliver engaging swimming lessons at the Stawell Sports & Aquatic Centre in St Arnaud. You will plan, teach and assess participants, promoting water safety and confidence in the water.

We value friendly, patient instructors who adapt to learners' needs and provide a supportive learning environment. The role includes collaboration with the team, ongoing training, and customer-focused service.

Qualifications

• Current AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety qualification, or equivalent.
• Current AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant and Preschool qualification, or equivalent (desirable).
• Current Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) recognised resuscitation certification.
• Current Level 2 (Senior) First Aid certification.
• Knowledge of AUSTSWIM industry guidelines.
• Knowledge of swimming lesson philosophy and teaching guidelines.
• Ability to adapt lessons to meet the learning needs and skill levels of individual participants.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare and safely deliver swimming lessons to the Swim and Survive standard.
• Develop lesson plans using a variety of teaching methods and styles to support different learning needs.
• Assess participant readiness, progress and skill development, and provide appropriate feedback and reporting.
• Create a positive, encouraging and inclusive learning environment.
• Support and supervise AUSTSWIM or equivalent training candidates and probationary employees participating in classes.
• Provide professional and friendly customer service to participants, parents, carers and other stakeholders.
• Promote positive water safety behaviours and help participants build confidence in the water.
• Attend mandatory staff meetings as required.
• Undertake other duties within your skills, competence and training.
