Job summary

Captain Cook Cruises, part of the Journey Beyond Group, is seeking a Casual Master IV to safely navigate vessels on the Swan River in Perth. You will lead onboard operations, ensure safety compliance, and deliver engaging guest experiences through expert commentary and service.

The ideal candidate holds AMSA Master near coastal certification, First Aid/ CPR, a valid AMSA Medical, and a flexible 7-day roster. Prior coastal vessel experience and a valid Driver's licence are essential for this role.

Qualifications

• Experience as Vessel Master operating in coastal waters (Perth/Swan River) is essential.
• Current AMSA Master near coastal certification is essential.
• First Aid and CPR certificate.
• Ability to work varied hours across a 7-day roster, including weekends/public holidays.

Responsibilities

• Provide informative and engaging onboard commentary, sharing local knowledge, history, wildlife and points of interest.
• Maintain responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of all passengers, crew and contractors on board.
• Ensure compliance with the Safety Management System (SMS), vessel certifications and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct pre-departure checks, safety briefings, emergency drills and incident reporting as required.
• Monitor weather, sea and operating conditions to ensure safe voyage planning and execution.
• Lead, supervise and support crew members, ensuring high standards of performance and service.
• Oversee vessel cleanliness, maintenance reporting and operational readiness.
• Complete vessel logs, operational documentation and compliance records accurately and on time.
• Liaise with guests, crew and shore-based teams to ensure smooth daily cruise operations.
