Mildura English Language Centre (MELC), a campus of Mildura Senior College in north-west Victoria, is seeking an ES1-2 Multicultural Teacher Aide with Swahili to support language learning for migrant and refugee students.

The role involves assisting teachers in intensive EAL programs, translating communications, and helping students engage with curriculum while fostering inclusive practices across the MELC community. A genuine commitment to student success is essential.

Formación

• Experience supporting students in intensive EAL programs (P-10) in Mildura.
• Ability to communicate with families and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds.
• Proficiency with ICT and digital learning tools for language support.
• Commitment to professional learning and growth.
• Fluent reading/writing/speaking/listening in English and another language, Swahili preferred.

Responsabilidades

• Multicultural Education Aide: Support student learning individually or in groups with direction from the class teacher.
• Translate communication between teachers and non-English speaking students in the classroom.
• Translate between teachers and non-English speaking parents during enrolment interviews and parent conferences.
• Assist in translating school documents and resources, including using interpreting services.
• Prepare basic curriculum resources.
• Assist MELC in liaising with external support service providers, teachers, students and families.
• Support staff in student wellbeing.
• Provide insight into students' cultural backgrounds and experiences where possible.
• Literacy in Swahili is desirable.
