Job summary

BaptistCare NSW & ACT is seeking an experienced Sustainability Manager to lead our sustainability strategy, framework and action plans across the organisation. Reporting to the General Manager - Strategy, you will guide the development, execution and reporting of initiatives that support BaptistCare’s commitment to net zero by 2050 or before and our Reconciliation Action Plan.

This role is highly influential, enabling sustainability to be embedded into corporate strategy and decision-making.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental, social or governance disciplines is required.
• At least 10 years’ experience in a senior sustainability role.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with ability to translate trends into guidance.
• Strong analytical capability with data interpretation and KPI development.
• Highly developed project and stakeholder management skills; able to lead across a complex org.
• Organised, reliable, independent and flexible in approach.
• Understanding and appreciation of BaptistCare’s Christian identity and values.

• Guide development, execution and reporting of initiatives supporting net zero by 2050 or sooner, Reconciliation Action Plan, and other priorities.

About the role

BaptistCare is seeking an experienced Sustainability Manager to lead and manage our sustainability strategy, framework and action plans across the organisation. Reporting to the General Manager - Strategy, you will guide the development, execution and reporting of initiatives that support BaptistCare’s commitment to net zero by 2050 or before, our Reconciliation Action Plan and other key sustainability priorities.

This is a highly influential role with the opportunity to embed sustainability into corporate strategy and decision‑making. Partnering across BaptistCare, you will identify sustainability risks and opportunities, establish meaningful goals and measures, support responsible growth and build organisation‑wide engagement in sustainability outcomes.

You will act as a trusted subject matter expert across sustainability frameworks, data, disclosures and emerging regulatory requirements. You will also provide clear reporting to the Executive Team and Board, strengthen internal measurement systems and help communicate BaptistCare’s progress credibly and purposefully.

About you

• A relevant bachelor’s degree, preferably in an environmental, social or governance discipline
• At least 10 years’ experience in a senior sustainability role
• Strong knowledge and practical capability across environmental and social sustainability and/or governance
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to understand emerging trends and translate them into clear organisational guidance
• Strong analytical capability, including collecting, interpreting and reporting data and establishing meaningful KPIs and sustainability metrics
• Highly developed project management, stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the confidence to lead across a complex organisation
• An organised, reliable, independent and flexible approach
• An understanding and appreciation of BaptistCare’s Christian identity, with a commitment to demonstrating our mission and values in your work

Highly regarded

• Knowledge and experience in global sustainability standards and frameworks, such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals, Sustainability Accounting Standards Board and Task Force on Climate‑related Financial Disclosures
• Experience designing or redesigning a corporate sustainability program.
