Job summary

Downer is seeking an Environment and Sustainability Officer to support the Unitywater Program in the Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast region. This entry- to early‑career opportunity offers practical experience in environmental compliance, reporting, inspections and improvement initiatives.

You will work with experienced professionals, receive training and mentoring, and contribute to environmental systems and project delivery across DA and utilities sectors.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Energy, Environmental Management, Sustainability or a related field.
• Understanding of environmental compliance, sustainability principles and environmental management systems.
• Strong written and verbal communication; attention to detail.
• Current driver licence.

Responsibilities

• Supporting environmental and sustainability activities across the Unitywater Program
• Assisting with environmental inspections, audits and monitoring
• Preparing environmental management plans and project documentation
• Maintaining environmental licence, permit and approval registers
• Supporting environmental incident investigations and corrective actions
• Assisting with monthly environmental and sustainability reporting
• Coordinating information for National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting
• Reviewing environmental data and identifying trends
• Supporting environmental training and awareness activities
• Working with operational teams, clients and regulators
• Travelling to project sites when required
• Contributing to improvements in environmental systems and processes

Downer is looking for an Environment and Sustainability Officer to support the Unitywater Program based in the Moreton Bay and Sunshine Coast region.

This is a great opportunity for a recent graduate or early career environmental professional looking to build practical experience in the utilities and infrastructure industry.

Working with experienced environmental professionals, you will support operational teams with environmental compliance, reporting, inspections, approvals and improvement initiatives. You will receive practical training, mentoring and opportunities to develop your environmental and sustainability capability.

Your responsibilities will include:

What we’re looking for

You are an enthusiastic and organised environmental professional who is ready to learn and build practical experience.

You will have:

• A tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Energy, Environmental Management, Sustainability or a related field
• A basic understanding of environmental compliance, sustainability principles and environmental management systems
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
• Effective planning, organisation and time management skills
• Confidence using Microsoft Excel and other applications to analyse and present data
• The ability to learn new systems and software
• A collaborative and practical approach
• A current driver licence
• Previous experience in environmental management, sustainability, construction, infrastructure or utilities would be helpful but is not essential.
