Job summary

Thrive House in Caloundra, Queensland seeks dedicated support workers to provide high-quality, trauma-informed care to children, young people and NDIS participants.

You will collaborate with families, carers and multidisciplinary teams to promote safety, independence and meaningful outcomes, while supporting each individual’s goals in a warm, empowering environment.

Qualifications

• Hold a minimum Cert IV in a relevant qualification or actively work toward achieving it.
• Hold or be eligible to obtain a Licensed Care Services (LCS) check, QLD Working with Children Check (WWCC) and Disability Worker Screening Clearance.
• Open or be eligible to obtain a driver’s licence and have legal rights to work in Australia.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct care and support with daily living activities including meal preparation, personal hygiene and household tasks.
• Support clients to attend medical appointments and manage medications.
• Accurately complete shift notes, progress notes and incident reports.
• Respond to behaviours of concern using trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches.
• Assist clients to identify emotions, develop coping strategies, and build resilience.
• Help clients develop independence and essential life skills.
• Implement and adhere to care plans, safety plans and risk management plans.
• Support clients to access the community.

About the role

In this role, you will provide high-quality, trauma-informed and person-centred support to children, young people, and NDIS participants who may present with complex behaviours, psychosocial disabilities, developmental needs, social challenges, or protective concerns. Using therapeutic approaches and Positive Behaviour Support strategies, you will promote safety, independence, wellbeing, and positive outcomes while supporting each individual to achieve their personal goals.

Success in this role requires resilience, emotional maturity, sound professional judgement, and the ability to maintain strong professional boundaries in complex and often challenging environments. You will work collaboratively with families, carers, allied health professionals, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver consistent, high-quality support tailored to each person's individual needs.

What you'll do

• Provide direct care and support with daily living activities including meal preparation, personal hygiene, household cleaning, shopping, and maintaining a safe and healthy living environment.
• Support young people and adults to attend medical appointments and manage medications.
• Accurately complete documentation including, shift notes, progress notes, and incident reports.
• Respond to and manage behaviors of concern using trauma-informed, strengths-based, and therapeutic approaches that promote safety and wellbeing.
• Support young people and adults to identify, understand, and regulate their emotions, develop effective coping strategies, and build resilience through positive role modelling and therapeutic interventions.
• Assist young people and adults to develop independence, self-confidence, and essential life skills.
• Implement and adhere to individual care plans, safety plans, behaviour support strategies, and risk management plans to meet the unique needs of each participant.
• Support young people and adults to access the community.

Essential requirements

• Hold an industry-standard qualification, or willingness to enrol in and actively work towards achieving aminimum Cert IV a relevant qualification, as per the Peak Care guidelines.
• Hold or be eligible to obtain a Licensed Care Services (LCS) check, QLD Working with Children Check (WWCC Blue Card) and Disability Worker Screening Clearance (Yellow Card).
• Open or P2 QLD driver’s licence with no restrictions or conditions that prevent safe operation of a vehicle. organisational (work) vehicles as required by the role.
• Have legal rights to work in Australia.
• Flexible to work over a 24/7 roster (ability tocommit to 1 sleepover shift per week).
• Computer-literate.
• Well-developed verbal and written communication skills, with the literacy and numeracy skills required to accurately complete documentation, reports and workplace records.
