Job summary

St Vincent de Paul Society NSW in Wickham, Newcastle, seeks a compassionate Support Worker for a permanent full-time role. You’ll support clients with accommodation services, assist with maintenance coordination and ensure safe, well-presented properties.

The position runs Monday to Friday with SCHCADS hourly rates of $40–$43, plus up to $15,900 in tax‑free salary packaging and clear career progression opportunities.

Qualifications

• Experience in property management, accommodation services or a similar environment.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• The ability to work independently, take initiative and manage competing priorities.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills with diverse backgrounds.
• A respectful, empathetic, non-judgemental approach; commitment to supporting vulnerable people.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain client rooms, including cleaning, laundry and room set-up.
• Ensure accommodation and communal areas are clean, safe, welcoming and well-presented.
• Act as the first point of contact for maintenance requests and property-related issues.
• Coordinate and follow up property maintenance, repairs and general upkeep.
• Assist with tenancy management and property compliance processes.
• Provide practical day-to-day support to clients accessing the service.
• Build positive, respectful relationships with clients, fostering a safe and inclusive environment.
• Work collaboratively with Case Workers and other team members to support positive client outcomes.
