Job summary

Samaritans is seeking a Student Accommodation Coordinator to coordinate and deliver services, ensuring tenants receive comprehensive intake, guidance and support aimed at promoting tenancy stability and wellbeing in alignment with education, employment and community services.

You will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to support tenants to achieve positive housing outcomes and engagement. The role is based in Wickham, on-site, with a maximum term contract through mid-2027.

Qualifications

• Tertiary degree in counselling, social work, psychology or similar.
• Current drivers license.
• Current Working with Children Check.
• National Police Check.
• Ability to build and maintain partnerships with external stakeholders.
• Trauma-informed and strengths-based practice understanding.

Responsibilities

• Part-time 60 hours per fortnight
• Location: Wickham
• This role is paid under the SCAHDS Award 2010- Level 4:1 - $46.70p/h

The Opportunity

The Student Accommodation Coordinator plays a key role in the effective coordination and delivery of Samaritans Student Accommodation services. The position is responsible for facilitating tenant access to accommodation through comprehensive assessment and intake processes, while supporting the achievement of program objectives through ongoing monitoring, review, and evaluation of individual and program outcomes. The Student Accommodation Coordinator serves as a central point of contact for tenants, providing information, guidance, referrals, and practical support to enhance tenancy sustainability, wellbeing, and engagement with education, employment, and community services. The role works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure tenants receive responsive, person-centred support that promotes independence and positive housing outcomes.

Qualifications/Criteria:

• Tertiary Degree in Counselling, Social work, Psychology or similar
• A current Drivers License
• A current Working with Children Check
• National Police Check (Newcastle Anglican will consider the relevance of any reported outcomes).
• Demonstrated ability to build, negotiate, and maintain strategic partnerships with external stakeholders and senior-level organisations.
• Strong understanding of trauma-informed and strengths-based practice, including the impact of trauma on young people.
• Effective people leadership skills, including staff supervision, coaching, mediation, and conflict resolution.
• Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage young people, families, and key stakeholders.
• Sound knowledge of current State and Commonwealth child protection legislation, policies, and guidelines.
• Strong organisational, time management, and documentation skills, with high attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
• Leadership experience in child protection, youth, or community services programs.
• Training in therapeutic models (CBT, CALM, TCI, etc.)
• Experience in program development, evaluation, and continuous improvement
