Job summary

Rio Tinto Iron Ore in Tom Price, WA is seeking a Superintendent Indigenous Support to lead a team delivering strategic support for Indigenous employees and partnering with leaders to strengthen cultural competency across the business. About the role

We are looking for a Superintendent Indigenous Support to lead a team that provides strategic support for Indigenous employees and partners with leaders to strengthen cultural competency across the business. The role guides initiatives that build cultural awareness, embed inclusive practices and support culturally safe workplaces.

Reporting to the Principal Indigenous Support, you will oversee culturally responsive support, coaching, case management and organisational improvement activities. This is an opportunity to lead practical programmes that improve employee experience, retention, development and belonging.

What you’ll be doing

Reporting to the Principal Indigenous Support and leading the Indigenous Support team, you will be:

  • Lead culturally responsive support, coaching and case management for Indigenous employees across the employee lifecycle.
  • Partner with leaders to embed culturally safe practices, influence workplace inclusion and strengthen Indigenous support capability.
  • Support workplace transitions, internal transfers and onboarding, with focused support during the first 90 days where required.
  • Guide initiatives that improve wellbeing, retention, career development and performance outcomes for Indigenous employees.
  • Champion the Indigenous Participation Framework and collaborate with Indigenous employment, talent and attraction teams.
  • Maintain engagement, case and outcome data to identify trends, support continuous improvement and provide clear reporting.
  • Build effective relationships across operational and functional teams and with relevant external service providers.
  • Lead team capability, workforce planning and resourcing in line with service demand and risk.

Required for Success
  • A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.
  • Demonstrated experience providing culturally responsive mentoring, coaching, case management or employee support.
  • Experience leading teams or programmes that support Indigenous employees, inclusion, cultural capability or workforce outcomes.
  • Understanding of HR policies, processes and employee support pathways in a large or complex organisation.
  • Ability to analyse information, identify trends and translate insights into sound decisions and practical action.
  • Experience building trusted relationships and influencing leaders and stakeholders across operational and functional settings.
Helpful for Success
  • A qualification in social science, human resources or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Certificate IV in Indigenous Leadership and Mentoring, or relevant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander mental health first aid training.
  • Experience working in iron ore, mining or another large operational environment.
