Subtype Melbourne CBD is seeking a fashion-forward Assistant Store Manager who thrives on style, service and leading a team to deliver an exceptional brand experience. Responsibilities

• Lead through style and service: Inspire team to deliver personalised styling advice, exceptional product knowledge and an elevated customer experience.
• Drive sales and performance: Monitor daily, weekly, monthly and yearly sales results, identify opportunities and motivate your team to achieve and exceed KPIs and targets.
• Bring the brand to life: Maintain a fashion-forward store environment through strong visual merchandising, product presentation and current trends.
• Develop and inspire your team: Coach, mentor and motivate team members, supporting their growth while building a high-performing team.
• Own operational excellence: Support stock control, inventory management, loss prevention and store presentation.
• Manage commercial performance: Assist with wage control, rostering and resource planning to maximise productivity and profitability.
• Create a strong store culture: Lead by example, foster collaboration and ensure the team delivers Subtype’s brand standards.
• Maintain a safe environment: Ensure compliance with WHS requirements and company policies.

Working closely with your Store Manager, you’ll play a key role in shaping the store experience, developing your team and driving commercial success. From delivering an elevated customer experience to creating an inspiring store environment, you’ll help bring the Subtype brand to life through your product knowledge, styling expertise and leadership.

The Role & Responsibilities

As Assistant Store Manager, you’ll work alongside your Store Manager to drive performance, develop talent and deliver an exceptional brand experience. Your responsibilities will include:

• Lead through style and service: Inspire your team to deliver personalised styling advice, exceptional product knowledge and an elevated customer experience.


• Drive sales and performance: Monitor daily, weekly, monthly and yearly sales results, identify opportunities and motivate your team to achieve and exceed KPIs and targets.


• Bring the brand to life: Maintain a considered, fashion-forward store environment through strong visual merchandising, product presentation and an understanding of current trends.


• Develop and inspire your team: Coach, mentor and motivate team members, supporting their individual growth while building a high-performing, engaged team.


• Own operational excellence: Support all aspects of store operations, including stock control, inventory management, loss prevention and store presentation.


• Manage commercial performance: Assist with wage control, effective rostering and resource planning to maximise productivity and profitability.


• Create a strong store culture: Lead by example, foster collaboration and ensure the team consistently delivers on Subtype’s brand standards.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who brings together fashion credibility, commercial thinking and a genuine passion for people. To be successful in this role, you’ll have:

• Experience in a retail leadership role, such as a Senior Sales Assistant, Key Holder, Supervisor or Third-in-Charge (3IC), or equivalent experience demonstrating leadership potential.


• A strong personal sense of style and a genuine passion for contemporary fashion, footwear and emerging trends.


• The confidence to style customers, communicate product stories and create memorable shopping experiences.


• A motivated, driven ‘Make It Happen’ attitude with a proactive approach to achieving results.


• A passion for leading, coaching and inspiring a team to succeed.


• A proven ability to drive sales, achieve KPIs and identify commercial opportunities.


• Strong operational skills, including experience with stock control, visual merchandising and store presentation.
