Job summary

Western Cape College Boarding Campus in Weipa, Far North Queensland, is seeking a compassionate Guidance Officer to provide wellbeing support across social, emotional and educational needs within a 24/7 boarding environment.

You will build positive relationships with students, families and staff, delivering trauma‑informed, culturally responsive guidance and coordinating referrals and case management to help students thrive while living away from home.

Qualifications

• Strong interpersonal, communication and relationship-building skills with a commitment to culturally responsive practice when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, families and communities.
• Ability to work collaboratively and independently in a remote environment with sound professional judgement and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• As the Guidance Officer, provide individualised wellbeing, counselling and guidance support to students experiencing social, emotional, behavioural, family, cultural or educational challenges.
• Build positive, trusting relationships with students and provide trauma-informed and strengths-based support.
• Coordinate with families, boarding staff, school staff and external agencies to implement wellbeing strategies and referrals.
• Contribute to student wellbeing triage, case management and follow-up for students returning from hardship or extended leave.
• Support students with resilience, self-regulation, life skills, engagement, transitions and future planning.
