Job summary

The Department of Education invites applications for a Psychologist or Social Worker to join the Student Support Services team based in the Warrnambool office of Wimmera South West. The role focuses on preventative and early intervention to support student learning, wellbeing and life outcomes.

This fixed-term position is based in Warrnambool, 1.0 FTE to backfill until 30 June 2027, with a possible extension to 1 February 2029 at 0.6 FTE. Travel to local schools and communities is expected.

Qualifications

• Registration as a psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
• A valid Working with Children Check.
• A current Australian Drivers Licence.
• Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement individualised programs in collaboration with teachers, parents/carers and relevant professionals.
• Document, monitor and report on student participation and progress; evaluate outcomes and make recommendations.
• Provide support and advice to schools on complex cases and time-sensitive decisions.
• Support schools to respond effectively to critical incidents.
• Liaise with community services, hospitals and other professionals regarding student support needs.

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated and experienced Psychologist or Social Worker to join the Student Support Services (SSS) team based in the Warrnambool office of Wimmera South West. Working alongside schools, families and communities, you will help students overcome barriers to learning and participate fully in education. Unlike many clinical settings, this role offers the opportunity to work within a preventative and early intervention framework, helping schools build inclusive environments that support student success and wellbeing. Social Worker As a Social Worker in Student Support Services, you will work with students, families, schools and communities to address barriers to engagement, wellbeing and learning. You will play a critical role in supporting vulnerable children and young people to access education and achieve positive outcomes. This role offers the opportunity to make a meaningful difference through early intervention, advocacy, collaboration and system-level support within school communities.

About the role

This fixed term role is based at the Warrnambool Office, in the Wimmera South West area. The position is available at 1.0FTE to backfill a staff member on leave until 30 June 2027. A further period of employment may be available from 1 July 2027 to 1 February 2029, at 0.6FTE. This varied role will see you travel regularly around Warrnambool, Moyne and Corangamite, building relationships and supporting local schools, students and families. In this role, you will support children and young people to achieve their educational goals, participate fully in school life and overcome barriers to learning and wellbeing.

You will:

• Design and implement individualised programs in collaboration with teachers, parents/carers and relevant professionals, ensuring they are developmentally appropriate and responsive to each student's age, strengths and needs.
• Document, monitor and accurately report on student participation and progress, evaluating outcomes and making recommendations for future programming.
• Providing support and advice to schools, including regarding complex cases and time sensitive decisions.
• Supporting schools to respond effectively to critical incidents.
• Liaising with community service organisations, DFFH, hospitals, specialist programs and other professionals regarding the support needs for students.

Qualifications & Accreditations Psychologist
