Job summary

K.Wright Practice is seeking a senior structural/ mechanical engineering leader to guide a multidisciplinary team across industrial projects in Australia. You’ll stay involved in design while developing your people.

You’ll coordinate mechanical and structural design interfaces, review calculations, and ensure adherence to Australian Standards, delivering practical, buildable solutions on time. Experience with SpaceGass and AutoCAD is required, as is professional registration (RPEQ or chartered)

Qualifications

• Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering.
• Proficiency in SpaceGass and AutoCAD.
• Experience leading engineering teams.
• Knowledge of Australian Standards.
• RPEQ or Chartered status highly regarded.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and coordinate a team of mechanical and structural engineers and designers.
• Undertake and review structural analysis and design using SpaceGass and AutoCAD.
• Oversee the design of industrial steel structures, equipment supports, platforms, walkways, access systems and associated infrastructure.
• Coordinate mechanical and structural design interfaces, including equipment layouts, loading requirements and connections.
• Review engineering calculations, drawings and documentation against applicable Australian Standards and project requirements.
• Allocate workloads and monitor engineering progress to meet project deadlines.
• Assist with engineering budget management, including estimating design hours, tracking costs and identifying scope changes.
• Liaise with project managers, suppliers and fabrication teams to resolve design and delivery issues.
• Improve design processes, with a focus on safety, constructability, quality and cost efficiency.

Deliver industrial engineering projects across Australia. This role suits an experienced structural engineer who enjoys remaining involved in design while leading and developing a team. You will coordinate mechanical and structural engineering activities, oversee design quality and work closely with project delivery and fabrication teams to develop practical, buildable solutions.

Key responsibilities

About you

• A degree in Structural or Civil Engineering, or a relevant engineering discipline
• A strong foundation in structural analysis and design, particularly industrial structures and structural steel
• Proficiency in SpaceGass and AutoCAD
• The ability to lead an engineering team, provide technical guidance and coordinate competing priorities
• Knowledge of relevant Australian Standards
• Commercial awareness and the ability to support engineering budgets and resource planning
• Clear communication skills and a practical approach to problem-solving
• Experience within a fabrication or manufacturing environment is highly regarded but not essential
• Professional engineering registration, including RPEQ, or chartered status will also be highly regarded
