Job summary

GHD is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join our Design and Building Engineering group for NSW/ACT. Based in Sydney, Newcastle, Canberra or Wollongong, you will lead structural design projects for buildings, collaborating with architects and other engineers to deliver complex multidisciplinary solutions.

You will mentor junior staff, apply Australian Building Codes, engage with clients, and drive high-quality outcomes across NSW/ACT within our global team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering is required.
• 5–15 years of industry experience in building design within consulting.
• Knowledge of Australian Building Codes and Standards is essential.

Responsibilities

• Lead structural design projects for buildings, including inspections and reporting.
• Collaborate with architects, project managers, and other engineers in multi‑discipline teams.
• Provide expert technical guidance and maintain strong client relationships.
• Oversee project management and lead project teams to delivery.
• Support career development and mentoring of junior staff.

Responsibilities

• Leading and supporting structural design projects for buildings, along with inspections, assessments, and reporting.
• Working collaboratively with architects, project managers, building services and civil engineers in multidisciplinary teams delivering iconic projects.
• Providing clients with expert technical guidance and strategic advice, while developing and maintaining strong and supportive client relationships
• Project management and leading project teams to ensure successful project delivery.
• Ongoing career development opportunities in a vibrant and collaborative workplace culture.

What you will bring to the team

• A relevant university degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering.
• Between 5 and 15 years' industry experience as a Structural Engineer, with specific depth of experience in building design projects in a consulting environment.
• Experience utilising a broad range of skills across various types of buildings and materials.
• Membership of Engineers Australia and working towards CPEng and NER registration is highly desirable.
• Comprehensive knowledge of Australian Building Codes and Standards.
• Existing security clearance or Ability to hold a security clearance for project specific work is highly desirable.
• Strong communication skills and ability to engage confidently with clients and stakeholders.
• A passion for delivering high-quality, bespoke solutions and mentoring others.
