Job summary

HDR's Transport Structures team is seeking a Structural Engineer with bridge design experience based in Brisbane or Melbourne, to deliver major infrastructure projects within HDR's global network. You’ll join a highly collaborative group supporting design and delivery of bridges and transport structures for major projects.

You’ll perform analysis and design, develop drawings and specifications, and contribute to inspection, reporting and construction support.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
• 2–10 years' experience in structural engineering, ideally bridges/transport structures.
• Experience with multidisciplinary teams on transport infrastructure.
• Knowledge of structural analysis software listed.
• Interest in digital engineering and parametric modelling.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Commitment to HDR's employee-owned culture.

We're seeking a Structural Engineer with bridge design experience who is eager to develop their technical expertise, work alongside industry-leading specialists, and contribute to a diverse portfolio of challenging and rewarding projects.

Based in either Brisbane or Melbourne, you'll work within a highly collaborative team, supporting the design and delivery of bridges and transport structures for major infrastructure projects. This role offers the opportunity to build your technical capabilities while working alongside experienced engineers and multidisciplinary teams.

You’ll be involved in the full project lifecycle, from analysis and design through to inspections, reporting, and construction support, helping to deliver innovative and practical solutions for our clients.

What You'll Do

• Undertake engineering analysis and design for bridge and transport structure projects.


• Develop structural designs, calculations, drawings, and specifications.


• Contribute to the design of reinforced concrete, prestressed concrete, and steel structures.


• Work closely with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and contractors to achieve successful project outcomes.


• Prepare technical documentation and reports for review by senior engineers.


• Participate in bridge inspections, condition assessments, and occasional site visits.


• Support the continued growth and success of HDR's Bridges and Structures team.


• Contribute to safety, quality, and innovation initiatives, including HDR's "Drive to Zero" commitment.

What We're Looking For

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.


• Approximately 2-10 years' experience in structural engineering, ideally with a focus on bridges and transport structures.


• Experience working on transportation infrastructure projects within multidisciplinary teams.


• Knowledge of structural analysis and design software such as Midas Civil, SpaceGass, Strand7, SBD, and Excel.


• Interest in digital engineering and parametric modelling approaches.


• Strong communication and collaboration skills.


• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality outcomes.


• A motivated and proactive approach to learning and professional growth.
