Job summary

Willoughby City Council in Sydney is seeking an experienced Manager, Strategic Planning to lead long-term planning, policy and growth frameworks for Chatswood and beyond. You will shape land use policy, master plans and planning frameworks while guiding growth and infrastructure needs.

You will provide evidence-based strategic advice to senior leaders, manage a multidisciplinary team, engage stakeholders, and ensure value for money in major projects.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Urban Planning or related field.
• Significant experience in strategic planning or land use policy, preferably in local government.
• Strong understanding of planning legislation, environmental regulation and infrastructure planning.
• Experience leading strategic planning in high-growth areas, CBD renewal and multi-stage developments.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams, manage budgets and deliver major planning projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, review and implementation of strategic plans, land use policy, master plans and planning frameworks.
• Guide Council’s response to growth, demographic change and infrastructure demand.
• Provide timely, evidence-based strategic advice, reports and briefings to senior leadership and stakeholders.
• Lead inclusive engagement with community, government agencies and industry to build shared ownership of planning outcomes.
• Manage budgets, resources, work programs and team capacity to deliver high-quality planning projects.
• Champion innovation through data, mapping, digital tools and scenario planning.
• Lead, mentor and develop a high-performing multidisciplinary strategic planning team.
• Build partnerships that support Chatswood and the Willoughby community.
