Job summary

WaterNSW is seeking an experienced Statutory & Environmental Planning Adviser to support strategic planning and environmental assessments across NSW infrastructure. You will influence decisions that protect water quality and water security while coordinating with councils and agencies.

The role emphasizes robust environmental planning, policy interpretation, and collaborative problem-solving in a hybrid work setting. Abilities in reporting, negotiations, and project management are essential.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualifications in Land Use or Environmental Planning or related discipline with practical experience.
• Strong understanding of NSW planning framework and environment legislation.
• Excellent report writing and communicate for diverse stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Provide expert planning advice on strategic proposals, rezonings, development applications and policy changes affecting the Sydney Drinking Water Catchment.
• Review planning instruments and growth strategies to manage environmental and water quality risks.
• Interface with Sydney Water Corporation on environmental assessments, access protocols and heritage considerations.
• Support major infrastructure and capital projects with guidance on approvals and compliance.
• Represent WaterNSW in discussions with councils, state agencies, developers and consultants.
• Identify environmental and planning risks and develop innovative solutions balancing development and water security.
