Job summary

EVT is seeking a Duty Manager to lead the Front Office and oversee hotel operations in the absence of the General Manager. The role is full time, based in Melbourne, with a 38-hour work week and a focus on delivering exceptional service.

You will manage staffing, guest relations, revenue opportunities, and cost controls while upholding safety and WH&S standards. The position offers growth within EVT's hotel and entertainment network.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in a hotel Duty Manager or Front Office supervisor.
• Strong leadership and training abilities.
• Commercial awareness including yield management and cost control.
• Excellent guest service and decision-making under pressure.
• Knowledge of hotel property management systems and front office operations.
• Solid understanding of WH&S, fire and evacuation procedures.
• Flexibility to work rostered shifts, including weekends and public holidays.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the Front Office team, ensuring staffing, timeliness, and uniformity.
• Welcome guests, host VIPs, and resolve guest requests and complaints quickly and professionally.
• Maximise room rate and occupancy, promoting hotel features and upselling opportunities.
• Control costs, roster management, overtime, cashiering and tills in line with budget.
• Take charge of hotel safety and security, including incident reporting and crisis management.
• Coach and develop your team through on-the-job training and strong communication.

The Role

Full time, 38 hours per week. As Duty Manager, you'll be the face and custodian of the hotel, leading the front office and overseeing operations in the absence of the General Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the Front Office team, ensuring departments are well staffed, on time, in uniform and delivering exceptional service
• Act as the hotel's ambassador, greeting guests warmly, hosting VIP and group arrivals, and resolving guest requests and complaints quickly and professionally
• Maximise average room rate and occupancy, actively promoting hotel features, facilities and upselling opportunities
• Control costs and manage rostering, overtime, cashiering procedures, floats and tills in line with budget
• Take charge of hotel safety and security, including incident reporting, crisis management, fire and evacuation procedures, and WH&S compliance
• Coach and develop your team through on-the-job training, strong communication and a positive, high-performing culture

What You'll Bring

• Proven experience in a hotel Duty Manager, Front Office Supervisor or similar leadership role
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate, train and develop a team
• Commercial awareness, including knowledge of room rates, yield management and cost control
• Excellent guest service and complaint resolution skills, with the confidence to make decisions on shift
• Working knowledge of hotel property management systems and front office operations
• A solid understanding of WH&S, fire and evacuation, and emergency procedures
• Flexibility to work rostered shifts, including weekends and public holidays
