Job summary

Metropolitan Council is seeking an experienced Band 5/6 Statutory Planner to join the busy planning team in a metropolitan setting. The role focuses on providing clear and practical planning advice to residents, applicants and the public, alongside statutory planning duties.

You will handle enquiries by phone and in writing, assess and determine planning permits, prepare reports and liaise with internal departments and stakeholders to resolve planning matters promptly.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Town Planning or related discipline required.
• Experience in Victorian Local Government statutory planning preferred.
• Strong knowledge of Victorian planning legislation, processes and policies.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to explain planning information clearly and professionally.
• Experience assessing planning applications and providing statutory planning advice.

Responsibilities

• Responding to planning enquiries from residents, applicants, developers and the public.
• Providing clear planning advice over the phone and in writing.
• Assisting customers to understand planning requirements and planning controls.
• Managing phone duties and general enquiries within the planning team.
• Assessing and determining planning permit applications as required.
• Preparing planning reports, recommendations, correspondence and notices.
• Undertaking site inspections and assessing proposals against planning controls.
• Liaising with internal Council departments and external stakeholders.
• Supporting timely and professional resolution of planning matters and enquiries.
