Job summary

Darebin City Council is seeking a Statutory Planner (Subdivisions) to deliver high-quality land use and development assessment in a progressive council. The role concentrates on subdivision applications and related statutory planning, while supporting diverse projects including unit developments and heritage proposals.

You will provide timely planning advice, assess applications, and prepare reports, while refining your professional knowledge in a customer-first organisation.

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in land-use/town planning or closely related discipline.
  • Well developed understanding of the Victorian urban planning system and related acts.
  • Ability to research and analyse planning related issues.
  • Ability to manage time, set priorities and prepare and implement work plans.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality statutory planning advice and customer service to applicants, residents and Council staff.
  • Assess and determine planning applications of simple to average complexity in accordance with policy and legislation.
  • Provide specialist advice on subdivision matters and lead processing for Certification and Statement of Compliance.
  • Prepare planning reports and recommendations for planning permit applications.
  • Support Council’s representation at VCAT hearings.

  • Band 5 Salary - $82,985.24 - $95,307.68

As a Statutory Planer (Subdivisions), you will contribute to a positive and high performing team focused on providing statutory planning services that realise the Darebin community’s vision for a more equitable, vibrant and connected municipality.

The position is responsible for town planning and selected subdivision functions and providing clear, prompt advice to the public and Council staff on matters relating to the use and development of land.

As a Band 5 role, the position focuses on providing day-to-day customer service and processing simple to average complexity statutory planning approvals, including specialist support for subdivision approvals, while refining and developing the incumbent’s professional knowledge and skills.

About the role:

The Statutory Planner (Subdivisions) supports the delivery of high quality land use and development assessment, in a progressive and customer first organisation. The Statutory Planner (Subdivisions) role has a specialist focus on select subdivision applications, however in this role you will also work across a diverse range of projects ranging from unit developments, heritage proposals, industrial and commercial developments and applications abutting our creek environments.

You will:

  • Provide high-quality statutory planning advice and customer service to applicants, residents and Council staff.
  • Assess and determine planning applications of simple to average complexity in accordance with policy and legislation.
  • Provide specialist advice on some subdivision matters and take a lead role in processing applications for Certification and Statement of Compliance.
  • Prepare planning reports and recommendations for planning permit applications.
  • Support Council’s representation at VCAT hearings.

About you:
