Job summary

Ventia is seeking an experienced Station Officer to lead Fire & Rescue operations at RAAF Base Oakey, Queensland. You will supervise a platoon, ensure readiness of personnel and equipment, and drive safety and high performance within a unique Defence context.

You will build relationships with Defence and internal stakeholders, oversee training, rostering and documentation, and promote a positive safety culture while meeting Ventia SHEQ requirements.

Qualifications

• Certificate IV in Public Safety (Firefighting Supervision) or equivalent.
• Minimum 60 months' experience as Ventia Firefighter Level 1–4 or in a recognised Fire & Rescue service.
• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a platoon of firefighters and watchroom operators.
• Ensure operational readiness of personnel, vehicles and equipment.
• Coordinate emergency responses across structural, aviation, bushfire and Defence-related incidents.
• Manage station administration, reporting and operational documentation.

Job description

Ventia is currently seeking an experienced Station Officer to lead Fire & Rescue operations at RAAF Base Oakey, Queensland. With over 20 years of experience delivering Fire Services to the Australian Defence Force and a new long-term Defence contract secured in 2024, there's never been a better time to join one of Australia's largest private firefighting organisations.

About The Role

As Station Officer, you'll provide leadership to your platoon while ensuring the ongoing operational readiness of the station, appliances and equipment. You'll supervise emergency responses, support the professional development of your team and play a key role in delivering a safe, efficient and high-performing Fire Service. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced firefighter looking to step into, or continue, a leadership position within a unique Defence environment.

Your Responsibilities Will Include:

• Leading and supervising a platoon of Firefighters and Watchroom Operators.
• Ensuring operational readiness of personnel, vehicles and equipment.
• Coordinating emergency responses across structural, aviation, bushfire and Defence-related incidents.
• Managing station administration, reporting and operational documentation.

Building strong working relationships with Defence and internal stakeholders.

To Be Successful In This Role You Will Possess:

• Certificate IV in Public Safety (Firefighting Supervision) (PUA40319) or equivalent.
• Minimum 60 months' experience as a Ventia Firefighter Level 1–4 or within a recognised Fire & Rescue Service.
• Demonstrated leadership and supervisory experience.
• Strong communication and administrative skills.
• A commitment to safety, continuous improvement and developing others.

Special Conditions

• Be an Australian Citizen.
• Be eligible to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance (Negative Vetting Level 1 – Secret).
• Successfully complete an Australian Federal Police Check.
• Successfully complete a CASA Basic Class 2 pre-employment medical.
