Job summary

EatClub is seeking a Staff Engineer, Payments, to own and advance the payments platform across Australia, the UK and New Zealand. You’ll work closely with product and tech leads, shaping the technical direction and leading the design of the most complex payment flows.

You’ll stay hands‑on in code, guide architectural decisions, partner with banks and card schemes, and drive reliability, security and compliance while expanding payments capabilities for a fast‑growing fintech in hospitality.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of software engineering experience
• 4+ years building production payment systems
• Deep understanding of card payments and schemes
• Experience with ledgers, settlement and reconciliation
• Backend engineering in a modern language on cloud infrastructure
• Knowledge of PCI DSS and compliance scope minimisation
• Experience leading incident response for payment systems
• Ability to explain payments trade-offs to executives and partners
• Fluency with AI development tools and prudent use

Responsibilities

• Partner with product manager and tech lead to shape roadmap for payments platform
• Lead design of challenging payment problems and explain trade-offs
• Represent squad in conversations with payment partners, acquirers and card schemes
• Introduce external best practices for payments and implement them
• Strengthen reliability, risk and compliance at platform level
• Write production code for major changes and review others’ work
• Contribute payments expertise to direction of payments capability
