Job summary

EatClub is seeking a Staff Engineer, Payments to lead the design and delivery of our payments platform across Australia, the UK and New Zealand. You will shape technical direction, work closely with the PM and tech lead, and stay hands-on to implement high-impact changes.

The role requires deep payments expertise, experience at scale, and the ability to articulate trade-offs to executives, partners and auditors. You will drive reliability and compliance while mentoring the team.

Qualifications

• At least 8 years of software engineering experience, including 4+ years building production payment systems.
• Experience designing ledgers, settlement and reconciliation systems with cent-level accuracy.
• Strong backend engineering in a modern language on cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of the most complex payments problems and explain trade-offs clearly.
• Define the payments roadmap with PM and tech lead.
• Represent the squad in technical conversations with payment partners, acquirers, and card schemes.
• Strengthen reliability, risk and compliance at the platform level.
• Write production code and review peers to raise the team’s bar.
