Job summary

Nepean Blue Mountains Local Health District in Blue Mountains Hospital, Katoomba, is seeking a Senior Speech Pathologist to lead paediatric assessments and neonatal feeding and swallowing care within the Child and Adolescent Health Team.

The role focuses on delivering evidence-based paediatric services, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, and providing expert assessment and management for swallowing and feeding in neonates, while supporting families throughout development.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or post graduate degree in speech pathology enabling membership of Speech Pathology Australia or equivalent.
• Extensive post-graduate paediatric clinical experience including feeding/dysphagia and developmental assessments.
• Experience with autism spectrum disorders and pragmatic communication disorders in paediatric populations.

Responsibilities

We are seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Speech Pathologist to join our multidisciplinary Child and Adolescent Health Team. In this rewarding role, you will provide high-quality paediatric speech pathology services to children and adolescents experiencing communication delays and disorders, supporting their development and helping them reach their full potential.

As a senior clinician, you will play an integral role within a collaborative team environment, working alongside a range of allied health and medical professionals to deliver evidence-based assessment, intervention, and family-centred care. You will have the opportunity to apply your specialist knowledge and clinical expertise across a diverse and complex caseload, contributing to positive outcomes for children and their families.

The role also provides specialist speech pathology services to the Special Care Nursery and Children's Ward. In this capacity, you will provide expert assessment and management of paediatric swallowing and feeding difficulties for neonates and infants, supporting some of our most vulnerable patients during critical stages of their development.

What you will bring to the role

1. Bachelor’s or post graduate degree in speech pathology which provides eligibility for membership of Speech Pathology Australia, or other qualification deemed equivalent by the employer; and current driver’s licence
2. Extensive post graduate Speech Pathology clinical experience across Paediatric care environments, including advanced practice areas of Paediatric Feeding/ Dysphagia and demonstrating advanced clinical knowledge and skills in diagnosis and assessment of communication disorders as well as contributing to the team assessments of developmental delays and disorders.
3. Previous experience as a Paediatric Speech Pathologist with expertise in working with children with developmental disability including contributing to the Speech Pathology role in assessment particularly for autism spectrum disorders and other pragmatic communication disorders.
4. Previous experience as a Paediatric Speech Pathologist with expertise in assessment and management of infants with feeding and swallowing disorders including babies and children receiving non-oral nutrition.
5. Demonstrated leadership and commitment to Quality Improvement
6. Willingness and experience in supervision of level 1/ 2 Speech Pathology staff in the NBMLHD working in the specialty area of Paediatrics
7. Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, and good computer skills
8. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, as well as independently
