Job summary

Hunter Valley Private Hospital – Shortland NSW is seeking a passionate Speech Pathologist to join our Allied Health team on a casual basis. The caseload is predominantly neurological, along with a range of other medical conditions, with assessment and treatment of both inpatients and outpatients.

The successful candidate will become part of a dynamic and interdisciplinary Allied Health department, which seeks to provide our patients with high-quality evidence based, consumer-centred care.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Speech Pathology and eligibility for membership.
  • FIM accreditation is desirable.
  • Demonstrated communication skills and caseload management ability.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing and managing dysphagia.
  • Assessing and managing language and communication disorders.
  • Provide swallowing, speech and language therapy for inpatients and day patients.
  • Complete documentation for Functional Independent Measure (FIM).
  • Participate in case conferences with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to work as the sole clinician when required.
  • Availability on Monday and Thursday.

About the role:

Hunter Valley Private Hospital seeks an enthusiastic Speech Pathologist to join our Allied Health team on a casual basis. The caseload is predominantly neurological, along with a range of other medical conditions, with assessment and treatment of both inpatients and outpatients. The successful candidate will become part of a dynamic and interdisciplinary Allied Health department, which seeks to provide our patients with high-quality evidence based, consumer-centred care.

About us:

Hunter Valley Private Hospital is an 83-bed hospital. We provide a range of rehabilitation, surgical and medical services including palliative care and pain management. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to experience a varied clinical caseload across the acute and sub-acute setting

Hunter Valley Private Hospital is accredited by ACHS and has a dedicated focus on providing quality healthcare to our patients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assessing and managing dysphagia
  • Assessing and managing patients with language and communication problems
  • Provision of swallowing, speech and language therapy for inpatient and day patient services (diagnoses of clients include neurological, general medical and surgical conditions)
  • Complete relevant documentation pertaining to Functional Independent Measure (FIM)
  • Actively participate in case conference / progress meetings with the multi-disciplinary team
  • Bachelor of Speech Pathology
  • Previous clinical experience in adult Speech Pathology medical and/or rehabilitation setting
  • Eligibility for Speech Pathology Australia membership
  • Demonstrated high level of verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible, positive approach to work
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively and efficiently manage a caseload
  • Capacity to work as sole clinician
  • FIM accreditation
  • Availability on Monday and Thursday
