Job summary

IAG is seeking an experienced workplace health and safety specialist to partner with leaders across the business to identify risks and implement practical, sustainable solutions. You will lead safety initiatives, conduct audits and investigations, and help build capability for safer, healthier workplaces.

Based in Sydney, this permanent full-time role offers broad exposure to safety management systems, data-driven reporting, and collaboration with People and Culture.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of workplace health and safety experience in a complex corporate environment.
• Ability to partner with leaders to identify risks and implement practical solutions.
• Strong knowledge of Australian and New Zealand WHS legislation and standards.
• Experience designing and improving safety management systems and initiatives.
• Experience conducting risk assessments, audits or assurance activities and investigations.

Responsibilities

• Partner with leaders and teams to manage health, safety and wellbeing risks, including psychosocial risks.
• Provide practical specialist advice and strategies aligned with IAG's safety policies and plans.
• Support leaders to build capability and manage routine safety and wellbeing matters.
• Investigate sensitive or high-risk incidents and implement effective corrective actions.
• Conduct targeted audits, assessments and reviews and develop risk management plans.
• Contribute to design and continuous improvement of safety strategy and SIS.
• Use data to identify trends and provide timely reporting to stakeholders.
• Engage with leaders, People and Culture, Safety Champions and external providers to achieve outcomes.
• Develop and deliver communications, tools and learning to strengthen safety culture.
• Translate regulatory and business requirements into practical actions to reduce risk.

This is a permanent full-time role based in Gadigal Country (Darling Park 2, Sydney).

What You'll Do

• Partner with leaders and teams to manage health, safety and wellbeing risks, including psychosocial risks.
• Provide practical specialist advice, strategies and solutions that align with IAG's Safety and Wellbeing policies, procedures, frameworks and plans.
• Support leaders to build capability and take accountability for managing routine safety and wellbeing matters.
• Provide guidance and investigate sensitive, complex or high-risk incidents and help leaders implement effective corrective actions and improvements.
• Conduct targeted audits, assessments and reviews, and work with leaders to develop and implement risk management plans.
• Contribute to the design, delivery and continuous improvement of IAG's safety and wellbeing strategy, programs and integrated safety management system.
• Use data and insights to identify trends, emerging risks and improvement opportunities, and provide clear and timely reporting to stakeholders.
• Engage and consult with leaders, People and Culture teams, Safety Champions, Risk teams and external providers to support effective outcomes.
• Support the development and delivery of communications, tools and learning that strengthen safety culture and enable our people to work safely and well.
• Help translate legislative and business requirements into practical actions that improve the employee experience while reducing risk.

What You'll Bring

• At least five years of workplace health and safety experience, ideally in a complex corporate environment.
• Demonstrated experience partnering with leaders and teams to identify risks and implement practical, sustainable solutions.
• Strong knowledge of Australian work health and safety legislation and New Zealand health and safety at work legislation, including relevant regulations, codes of practice and standards.
• Experience supporting the design, implementation and continuous improvement of safety management systems, programs and initiatives.
• Experience conducting risk assessments, audits or assurance activities and supporting incident investigations and corrective actions.
• The ability to influence, advise and build trusted relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex requirements into clear, practical guidance.
• Experience delivering projects, change initiatives, presentations or learning to diverse audiences.
• Strong judgement, organisation and prioritisation skills, with the ability to manage competing needs and escalated matters appropriately.
• A collaborative and improvement-focused approach, with a genuine commitment to creating safe, healthy and inclusive workplaces.
