Job summary

Yiaga in Melbourne’s Fitzroy Gardens is seeking a Sommelier to join our wine team under the guidance of the Head Sommelier and Master Sommelier. You will help shape the restaurant’s wine vision and deliver exceptional guest service.

The ideal candidate has sommelier experience, WSET or Court of Sommeliers credentials, and the flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays. Full-time role with rights to work in Australia.

Located within Melbourne’s historic Fitzroy Gardens on Wurundjeri Country, Yiaga is shaped by place, season and community.

The Role

Our wine team is seeking a talented Sommelier who brings genuine enthusiasm and passion for the wine industry. We value individuals who are eager to further their careers, refine their knowledge, and contribute to a collaborative and ambitious wine program.

As part of our team, you will report to the Restaurant Manager and Head Sommelier. You will also work closely with our Master Sommelier Dorian Guillon, playing a key role in shaping and delivering the restaurant’s wine vision. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the organisation of our extensive wine cellar and providing guests with exceptional knowledge about both international and local wines, all while delivering excellent customer service skills.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

• Proven experience in a sommelier role, preferably in a hatted or Michelin starred establishment.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Diverse international and local wine knowledge
• Flexible availability to work various shifts including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
• Positive, friendly, and outgoing attitude
• Excellent presentation
• Ability to work under pressure
• Valid Victorian RSA certificate
• Completion of WSET Level 2 or higher, with a desire to complete further studies
• Court of Sommeliers – Completion of Certified Sommelier qualification or higher

This is a full-time position that will require flexibility and weekend work, your shifts and may comprise of a combination of day and night shifts in accordance with business demands.
