Job summary

DWS is seeking a hands‑on Solution Architect to lead architecture across regulatory technology portfolios in Sydney. You will collaborate with engineers, BAs, platform teams and vendors to deliver practical buildable solutions in complex enterprise environments.

Key focus areas include defining REST APIs, OpenAPI specs, microservice boundaries and API security, with extensive AWS/Kubernetes experience. This role is hybrid, with 3+ days onsite and a competitive salary package.

Qualifications

  • Hands‑on Solution Architect with recent architecture artefacts.

  • Practical REST API, JSON and OpenAPI knowledge.
  • Experience with event‑driven architecture and async patterns.
  • Experience with AWS or equivalent cloud platforms.

Responsibilities

  • Produce and maintain SADs, high‑level architecture artefacts, and SDDs.
  • Define REST APIs, interface contracts, OpenAPI specs and error handling.
  • Create system context, component, integration and deployment diagrams.
  • Design synchronous and asynchronous interfaces (API, event, batch, file).
  • Work with engineers to define microservice boundaries and contracts.
  • Define data ownership, data flows and reconciliation needs.
  • Assess legacy systems and plan coexistence with modern platforms.
  • Define migration, cutover and rollback strategies.
  • Collaborate with security and identity teams on auth and API security.
  • Lead design workshops and support backlog refinement.

Type: Permanent, ACN Contractor, or Max Term

Style: Hybrid; 3+ days onsite

Salary: Up to $200K package (inc super) for Permanent roles. ACN and Max Term options available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce and maintain Solution Architecture Documents (SADs), High-Level Solution Architecture artefacts and Solution Design Documents (SDDs).
  • Define REST APIs, interface contracts, OpenAPI/Swagger specifications, request/response models, schemas and error handling.
  • Develop system context, component, integration, sequence, data-flow and deployment diagrams.
  • Design synchronous and asynchronous integration patterns, including API, event, messaging, batch and file-based interfaces.
  • Work with engineering teams to define microservice boundaries, responsibilities and contracts.
  • Define system-of-record responsibilities, data ownership, data flows, identifiers, reconciliation requirements and state transitions.
  • Analyse impacts to legacy systems and design coexistence approaches between legacy and modern platforms.
  • Define migration, transition, cutover, rollback and reconciliation strategies.
  • Work with security and identity teams to define authentication, authorisation and security requirements.
  • Define non‑functional requirements covering availability, resilience, scalability, performance, observability and recoverability.
  • Lead technical design workshops and support backlog refinement activities.
  • Work directly with developers and technical leads throughout implementation.
  • Review detailed designs and implementation approaches for alignment with agreed architecture.
  • Resolve solution and integration issues encountered during delivery.
  • Maintain architecture decisions, assumptions, dependencies, risks and deviations.
  • Support testing, release readiness, operational transition and knowledge transfer activities.

Technical Environment:

  • AWS, Amazon EKS, Kubernetes and containerised workloads
  • CI/CD, DevSecOps and Infrastructure as Code
  • Microservices and service‑based architectures
  • REST APIs, OpenAPI/Swagger and GraphQL
  • Java and modern application frameworks
  • Kong API Gateway and enterprise integration technologies
  • Kafka, Confluent and event‑driven architecture
  • Oracle, Snowflake, CDC and enterprise data integration
  • Microsoft Entra ID, OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, JWT and API security
  • Salesforce, observability platforms and enterprise engineering toolsets

To Be Successful You Will Demonstrate:

  • Strong recent experience as a hands‑on Solution Architect.
  • Experience personally producing detailed architecture and technical design artefacts.
  • Strong API and integration architecture experience.
  • Practical understanding of REST APIs, JSON, OpenAPI and interface contracts.
  • Experience with event‑driven architecture and asynchronous integration patterns.
  • Experience with AWS or comparable enterprise cloud platforms.
  • Experience integrating legacy systems with modern platforms.
  • Strong understanding of data ownership, system‑of‑record and migration patterns.
  • Experience defining authentication, authorisation and API security requirements.
  • Experience working directly with software engineers and technical leads during delivery.
  • Ability to work through incomplete or evolving requirements and turn them into practical design decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple technical stakeholders.
