Job summary

Morson Edge Australia is seeking an experienced Soil Tester / Construction Materials Testing Technician to join our Brisbane team. The role covers field testing across civil projects and laboratory work to verify material quality and compliance.

You will work with site teams, engineers and clients to deliver accurate results, maintain records and ensure safety and QA across testing activities. A hands-on role requiring practical soil testing experience.

Qualifications

• Experience in soil testing or construction materials testing (CMT).
• Practical knowledge of compaction, density, and soil sampling.
• Familiarity with CBR, KPA, and/or concrete testing.
• Understanding of Australian Standards and quality requirements in construction.

Responsibilities

• Conduct field and laboratory testing of soils and construction materials.
• Operate a truck-mounted drill rig to collect soil samples at civil sites.

Are you an experienced Soil Tester or Materials Testing Technician / Driller looking for your next opportunity across civil infrastructure and construction projects? We are partnering with a growing business seeking a practical, hands-on Soil Tester / Construction Materials Testing Technician to join its team in Brisbane. This is an opportunity to work across a diverse range of projects, carrying out field testing and ensuring construction materials meet the required quality and compliance standards. Whether you're currently working in construction materials testing, geotechnical testing or a civil testing laboratory, we're keen to hear from candidates with solid practical experience and a strong understanding of soil testing procedures.

About the Role

This is a field-based position involving construction materials testing across a variety of civil infrastructure projects, including roadworks, subdivisions, rail, renewable energy and other major construction developments. You'll work closely with site teams, engineers, contractors and clients to carry out testing, monitor compliance and provide accurate results to support project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct field and laboratory testing of construction materials, with a focus on soils.
• Operate a truck-mounted drill rig to collect soil samples and undertake field investigations across civil construction sites.
• Perform soil sampling, compaction, field density and moisture content testing.
• Carry out CBR, KPA and concrete testing as required.
• Ensure testing is completed in accordance with relevant Australian Standards and project specifications.
• Record test results, maintain accurate field documentation and assist with reporting.
• Liaise with site supervisors, contractors, engineers and clients regarding testing requirements and results.
• Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality assurance and compliance.
• Manage daily testing activities efficiently while adapting to changing site requirements.

What We’re Looking For

• Previous experience in soil testing, construction materials testing (CMT) or a similar geotechnical field-testing role.
• Practical experience with compaction, density and soil sampling.
• Familiarity with CBR, KPA and/or concrete testing.
• An understanding of relevant Australian Standards and construction quality requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to accurately record and report test results.
• Good communication skills and the confidence to interact with clients and site personnel.
• Ability to work independently in the field.
• Current Queensland Driver's Licence and White Card.
• Highly Regarded Experience working for a construction materials testing laboratory or geotechnical consultancy.
• Familiarity with NATA-accredited testing environments and relevant Australian Standards.
