Job summary

Latitude IT is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team spanning software engineering and financial modelling. You will focus on people leadership, delivery commitments and engineering quality, guiding decisions without requiring daily coding.

You will collaborate with Product, Engineering, Actuarial and Design stakeholders to translate priorities into outcomes and ensure the team remains productive and focused on high-quality software.

Are you an experienced software engineering leader who enjoys building high-performing teams, driving delivery and raising engineering standards?

We're partnering with a leading technology organisation in the financial services sector to find an Engineering Manager to take ownership of a multidisciplinary team working across software engineering and financial modelling.

This is an opportunity to step into a role where people leadership, delivery and technical judgement are equally important. You'll work closely with Product and Engineering stakeholders to turn priorities into outcomes, support engineers to do their best work and ensure the team continues to build quality, maintainable software.

The Opportunity

You’ll lead a team of software engineers and actuarial professionals, creating an environment where different disciplines work effectively together. You’ll be responsible for team performance, delivery commitments and engineering quality, balancing immediate priorities with the long-term health of the technology.

This isn't a role that requires you to spend your days coding. Instead, you’ll bring the technical credibility to guide engineering decisions, challenge ideas constructively and help the team deliver consistently.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Lead and develop the team: Set clear expectations, coach engineers, provide feedback and build capability across the team.
• Own engineering delivery: Translate product priorities into achievable plans, manage capacity and dependencies, and address delivery risks before they become blockers.
• Drive cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with Product, Engineering, Actuarial and Design stakeholders to resolve competing priorities, facilitate discussions and drive decisions.
• Champion engineering excellence: Promote high standards across software design, testing, code reviews, maintainability and development practices.
• Provide technical direction: Guide engineering decisions, challenge proposed solutions and help the team balance delivery speed with long-term quality.
• Improve ways of working: Strengthen Agile delivery practices, team effectiveness and collaboration across disciplines.
• Support sustainable engineering: Ensure technical debt, maintenance needs and longer-term engineering improvements remain visible alongside product priorities.

What We’re Looking For

• Proven experience as an Engineering Manager, Engineering Team Lead or Senior Technical Lead with meaningful people leadership responsibilities.
• A strong software engineering background, ideally having progressed from a hands-on development role into leadership.
• Demonstrated experience owning team delivery, managing dependencies and navigating changing priorities.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to bring technical and non-technical teams together and drive decisions.
• A sound understanding of modern software engineering practices, including automated testing, code reviews, software design and maintainable code.
• Experience working in Agile engineering environments and supporting continuous improvement.
• The technical credibility to guide engineers and assess engineering quality without needing to code full-time.

Experience with C++, Python or varied technology environments would be advantageous.
