The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is seeking a Software Engineer to contribute to high-performance, secure, accessible digital products across desktop and mobile. You will develop complex, reusable components, document your work, and deliver within budget and deadlines.

The role emphasizes best practices in performance, security, SEO, and accessibility, with opportunities to influence development standards.

Qualificações

• Experience building scalable, secure, accessible web experiences.
• Advanced front-end skills with React and TypeScript; Next.js experience.
• Knowledge of selecting and using modern frameworks and tools.
• Extensive automated testing: unit, integration, and end-to-end.
• Experience with at least one server-side language, preferably Node.js.
• Experience with the web release process, CI/CD, production monitoring, and post-release stakeholder collaboration.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to share ideas and knowledge across teams.
• Desirable: experience with audience-facing video/media delivery systems.

The Role

Under broad direction from the Technical Lead, you will provide advanced technical development skills within the ABC Digital Product’s Engineering team. Specifically, you will contribute to the development of high performance, secure and accessible digital products in an efficient manner across desktop, mobile, and potentially other device groups, in line with ABC strategy and objectives.

The Job

• In collaboration with colleagues, contribute to the analysis, design and development of complex, re-usable components, and functionality for a broad range of uses across various ABC digital properties.
• Take accountability for high-quality technical documentation, ensuring that all development work undertaken is properly documented and maintained.
• Deliver high quality product development within agreed timeframes and budget constraints.
• Maintain a high-level awareness of best industry practices for web development, particularly in areas such as performance, security, SEO, and accessibility; and proactively identify opportunities for improvement.
• Continually improve the quality of output by developing or contributing significantly to the development of best practices and development standards.

About You

• Demonstrated experience building scalable, complex, secure, accessible (WCAG 2.0), highly performant and responsive web experiences.
• Advanced front-end skills, building modern public facing web applications using React and Typescript with experience in Next.js or similar frameworks.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in assessing, selecting and using modern frameworks and tools.
• Extensive experience with automated testing, including unit, integration and end-to-end testing, and a mindset of building quality into the development process.
• Experience with at least one server-side language, preferably Node.JS.
• Experience with the web release process, including CI/CD and automation pipelines, production monitoring, and working effectively with stakeholders' post-release.
• Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong ability to foster an open and creative approach to development that shares ideas, skills, and knowledge across teams.
• Experience desired but not essential in designing, building, or supporting audience facing video and media delivery systems.
• Excellent skills in planning and prioritising projects and tasks; delivering high attention to detail while working under pressure to tight deadlines.
