Australian Broadcasting Corporation is seeking a Software Engineer to contribute to high-performance, secure, accessible web products across desktop and mobile. You will work under the Technical Lead within the ABC Digital Product’s Engineering team, delivering reusable components and robust documentation.

The role emphasizes React and TypeScript, Next.js, automated testing, CI/CD, and collaboration with stakeholders.

Qualificações

• Must have proven experience building scalable, secure and accessible web experiences.
• Strong front-end skills with React and TypeScript; experience with Next.js or similar frameworks.
• Experience with automated testing across unit, integration and end-to-end levels.
• Experience with at least one server-side language (preferably Node.js).
• Familiarity with CI/CD and web release processes; production monitoring and post-release work.

The Role

Under broad direction from the Technical Lead, you will provide advanced technical development skills within the ABC Digital Product’s Engineering team. Specifically, you will contribute to the development of high performance, secure and accessible digital products in an efficient manner across desktop, mobile, and potentially other device groups, in line with ABC strategy and objectives.

• In collaboration with colleagues, contribute to the analysis, design and development of complex, re-usable components, and functionality for a broad range of uses across various ABC digital properties.
• Take accountability for high-quality technical documentation, ensuring that all development work undertaken is properly documented and maintained.
• Deliver high quality product development within agreed timeframes and budget constraints.
• Maintain a high-level awareness of best industry practices for web development, particularly in areas such as performance, security, SEO, and accessibility; and proactively identify opportunities for improvement.
• Continually improve the quality of output by developing or contributing significantly to the development of best practices and development standards.

About You

• Demonstrated experience building scalable, complex, secure, accessible (WCAG 2.0), highly performant and responsive web experiences.
• Advanced front-end skills, building modern public facing web applications using React and Typescript with experience in Next.js or similar frameworks.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in assessing, selecting and using modern frameworks and tools.
• Extensive experience with automated testing, including unit, integration and end-to-end testing, and a mindset of building quality into the development process.
• Experience with at least one server-side language, preferably Node.JS.
• Experience with the web release process, including CI/CD and automation pipelines, production monitoring, and working effectively with stakeholders' post-release.
• Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong ability to foster an open and creative approach to development that shares ideas, skills, and knowledge across teams.
• Experience desired but not essential in designing, building, or supporting audience facing video and media delivery systems.
• Excellent skills in planning and prioritising projects and tasks; delivering high attention to detail while working under pressure to tight deadlines.
