Job summary

CSIRO is Australia's national science agency. A Software Engineer in CSIRO's Information and Data Centre (IDC) will develop, enhance and maintain data science and publication platforms for national collections and marine infrastructure, collaborating with the IDS Group within NCMI to deliver web tools and data infrastructure for researchers and industry.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Information Technology or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to contribute to technological decision-making, process improvement and software development tasks.
• Experience applying software engineering best-practices, such as version control, CI, automated testing, and work item tracking software.
• Experience in designing and developing RESTful APIs and web services.
• Knowledge of Windows/Linux server administration and support.
• Ability to plan and deliver software/projects within a multi-disciplinary team.
• Strong communication skills to articulate technical concepts to diverse clients.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to innovative products and services to increase usability of MNF and other data sets.
• Plan projects and carry out major parts, including data analysis and interpretation of results.
• Design, develop, deploy, document, and maintain web-based data systems and tools for data management and visualization.
• Use software engineering best-practices, such as version control, CI, automated test suites and issue tracking during daily activities.
• Liaise with CSIRO stakeholders, data providers and recipients on technical data interoperability, processing, metadata, publication and archiving.
