Job summary

TheDriveGroup in Sydney is seeking a Software Engineer to join an early aerospace technology startup building software that helps engineers design spacecraft hardware.

This hands-on role involves designing and maintaining core platform components, diving into the codebase, and running large-scale AWS workflows with Python and C++. You’ll work with physics and simulation engineers to integrate models and shape the architecture as the team grows.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of professional software engineering experience.
• Comfortable working across complex technical systems.
• Strong Python and solid C++ experience (ideally).
• Hands on AWS experience.
• Strong systems design and architecture skills.
• Experience with distributed systems, compute-intensive workloads, data pipelines or orchestration.
• The ability to understand an existing codebase and improve it incrementally.
• A practical, hands-on approach to software engineering.

Responsibilities

• Designing, building and maintaining core platform components across backend services and engineering interfaces.
• Getting deep into the existing codebase and making pragmatic decisions around what to improve, replace or build on.
• Designing and running large-scale parallel optimisation workflows on AWS.
• Building data pipelines, compute orchestration and the architectural foundations needed to scale.
• Writing high-performance Python and C++.
• Working alongside physics and simulation engineers to integrate complex simulation models into the platform.
• Contributing to system design, architecture, testing, CI/CD, coding standards and engineering processes as the team grows.

Do you want to build software that sits at the intersection of physics, simulation and aerospace?

We're working exclusively with an early stage aerospace technology company building software that enables engineers to design spacecraft hardware. The team is now looking for a Software Engineer to join as one of their early engineering hires and help shape the platform as it scales.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys getting into complex systems, understanding how things work under the hood and figuring out how to make them better.

You'll be involved in:

• Designing, building and maintaining core platform components across backend services and engineering interfaces
