Job summary

Gilmour Space Technologies is seeking a senior Flight Software engineer to join our team near Brisbane and the Gold Coast. You will collaborate with Software Engineering to plan work, act as Responsible Engineer for flight software, and potentially serve as Technical Authority for the Chief Engineer.

The role leads small product teams and requires DO-178C familiarity and high reliability software experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in software, CS, electronics, or mechatronics engineering or equivalent.
• 5+ years in embedded software design engineering (non-internship).
• 3+ years end-to-end embedded software product development.
• NV1 Security Clearance eligible.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate within a Software Engineering team to deliver products and services.
• Serve as Responsible Engineer for flight software products and conduct assessments.
• Fulfill role of Technical Authority on behalf of Chief Engineer when required.
• Lead small product teams quarterly and contribute to software designs and processes.
• Follow product development processes including requirements, design, verification, validation.
• Support unit and integration testing, troubleshooting, and issue resolution; travel to remote sites possible.
• Support architecture development and execution of the software team.
• Coordinate with other engineering teams and external stakeholders.
• Ensure activities adhere to policies and procedures.

• Collaborate within a Software Engineering team to deliver products and services, supporting the Lead Flight Software Engineer with technical planning of work packages
• Serve as a Responsible Engineer for Flight Software products, conducting technical assessments such as concept studies, trade studies, and COTS solution analyses.
• Ability to fulfill the role of Technical Authority on behalf of the Chief Engineer, as requested.
• Lead small product teams on a quarterly basis and contribute to the development of software engineering designs, processes, and activities.
• Follow and participate in product development processes, including requirements definition, design, verification, and validation.
• Support unit and integration testing, operational troubleshooting, and issue resolution, with potential travel to remote sites.
• Supporting architecture development, technology strategy and execution of the Software team
• Engage in Research and Development initiatives and support software engineering production activities for Launch Vehicle and Satellite product lines.
• Coordinate with Mechanical, Propulsion, Manufacturing, and Production teams, as well as external suppliers and stakeholders.
• Ensure that all engineering activities adhere to company policies, plans, and procedures and fulfill other duties as requested by management.

Mandatory Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree in either Software, Computer Science, Electronics, or Mechatronics Engineering, or a relevant qualification
• 5+ years of experience in professional Embedded Software design engineering settings (excluding internships)
• 3+ years of end-to-end Embedded Software product development experience
• NV1 Security Clearance eligible
• Proven ability to collaborate effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, demonstrating resilience in high-stress situations and a supportive approach with team members.

Desired Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Proficiency in C/C++ and Python, with experience with baremetal, RTOS, FPGA (VHDL/Verilog) and embedded Linux software development.
• Experience developing aerospace, automotive, medical or similar (high-reliability, safety-critical) software
• Knowledge of aerospace software engineering standards (e.g., DO-178C) and experience with rigorous software documentation, testing, debugging (e.g., GDB) and production tools. (e.g., static / dynamic analysis and code coverage)
• Proficient in DevOps activities, including infrastructure management, CI/CD development, and git workflows.
• Familiarity with Systems Engineering practices and experience developing software under both Waterfall and Agile frameworks.
