Job summary

Peoplebank is seeking a Java Backend Developer to join a high-performing engineering team building cloud-native platforms at scale. The role blends software development, production support and operational problem solving, with a focus on reliability and efficiency.

Qualifications

• 4-7 years of hands-on backend development experience using Java.
• Strong experience with Spring Boot and REST API development.
• Proven AWS experience including Step Functions, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, Aurora/SQL databases.
• Experience working with distributed systems and event-driven architectures.
• Strong production support and operational troubleshooting experience.
• Ability to analyse logs and metrics to diagnose incidents and identify root causes.
• Experience with observability platforms such as Splunk, SignalFx or similar.
• Comfortable taking ownership of incidents through to resolution.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot production incidents, investigate root causes and implement long-term fixes.
• Debug workflow failures across distributed systems and messaging platforms.

• Collaborate closely with engineering, product and support teams to deliver reliable, high-quality software.

Contract: 6 Months with potential extension
Location: Australia-wide -Fully Remote Option Available

We're partnering with a leading technology organisation to find an experienced Java Backend Developer to join a high performing engineering team building and supporting cloud native platforms at scale.

This role is ideal for an engineer who enjoys a blend of software development, production support, and operational problem solving. You'll not only build and enhance backend services but also play a key role in investigating production issues, debugging failures, recovering workflows, and improving the reliability and resilience of critical systems.

What You'll Be Doing
