Job summary

Cable, Australia’s battery-backed electricity company, is building an AI-native platform. We’re seeking an engineer who will own products end to end, from the business problem to the interface and backend, shaping how Cable operates for real customers.

You will work with coding agents daily, set engineering foundations, and collaborate with energy specialists and GTM teams to turn data into reliable products.

Qualifications

• 3+ years shipping software in a startup or larger company with high engineering standards.
• Deep knowledge of the modern full-stack software stack and the ability to take a product from ambiguous problem to a robust interface.
• Experience with AI-native tooling and coordinating workflows across multiple coding agents.
• Strong focus on software quality and production readiness.
• Ability to own features end-to-end and collaborate with energy specialists and GTM teams.

Cable is Australia’s battery-backed electricity company. We deliver "firm" electricity supply—the same price, 24/7, bespoke to each customer—at 20–40% lower cost than incumbents. We achieve this by installing a fully-funded and managed behind-the-meter battery coupled with our own in-house software stack, built from the ground up with the distributed energy future in mind.

Our solution has a structural cost advantage over legacy electricity retail models. We're building the energy company of the future, designed for a distributed, decarbonised electricity system.

Cable is at an inflection point. We’ve crossed the line from audacious idea to operating electricity retailer. We’re rapidly iterating on a state-of-the-art platform built to beat the incumbents. It already serves real residential and commercial customers. And now we’re ramping up. We’re building an era-defining energy company here. As one of our earliest engineers, you’ll define how Cable works, what it can become and how far we go.

We're AI-native. Engineers, energy specialists and the GTM team all build and ship with AI. We need engineers who'll own products end to end and build the agent-driven platform the rest of the team ships on.

What you'll do

• Own big chunks of Cable. You'll take a product from the business problem through to the interface, data model and backend, then watch how it holds up with real customers.
• Build with coding agents every day. Scope the work, give the agents the context they need, and decide what's good enough to ship. When something works, turn it into a workflow the rest of the team can use.
• Help everyone else build. Our energy specialists and GTM team write software too. You'll work alongside them and build the platform that gets their ideas into production without waiting on you.
• Set the engineering foundations. Decide where we need to be careful (security, billing, anything customers rely on), where simple is fine, and what can wait. We're small, but some mistakes in energy are expensive.
• Work on hard energy and data problems. Meter readings, wholesale prices, weather. You'll turn that data into products and decisions, working with our energy specialists so the software matches how the business actually runs.

Our stack

We're building a serverless system with TypeScript, React and Postgres, with agentic AI tooling running our development workflows. You'll build on an established foundation and have meaningful influence over how the architecture and development platform evolve.

About you

• Experience: You have 3+ years of experience shipping software in a leading startup or a larger company with high engineering standards.
• Expertise: You understand the modern full-stack software stack deeply and can take a product from an ambiguous problem through to a well-designed interface and reliable underlying systems.
• AI-native: You recognise AI tooling as a fundamental way of working, coordinating work across multiple coding agents. You actively improve your workflows and are excited to push the frontier of what these tools make possible.
• Engineering judgment: You care about good software and take responsibility for its quality in production. You know when a decision needs careful design, when a simple solution is enough, and how to keep a system understandable and resilient as it grows.
• Ownership and adaptability: This is a foundational role. We're building out the platform while we roll it out, learning and iterating in increasingly short feedback cycles. You're comfortable making decisions with incomplete information, adjusting as you learn, and taking responsibility for what you ship. You'll help shape Cable products and the way the team builds them.
• Be a great colleague: Communicate clearly, show kindness, share what you learn and build strong relationships with your teammates.
• Bonus expertise: Experience with large-scale time-series data, billing or accounting systems, or transactional data models.
