AI-native engineering, production on AWS, and a team that has rebuilt how it works around agentic coding.
Our client is a long-established Australian construction business that builds its own software rather than buying it. They've rebuilt their engineering team around agentic coding, and they want an engineer who already works this way and wants to do it alongside others who do too.
This is a hands-on build role. You'll ship production applications on AWS, with Claude Code as your main development tool.
Software Engineer (AI-Native) | Brisbane | Permanent | $120K–$160K
What you'll do
Build
- Ship features end to end, from written requirements to tested, deployed code, using Claude Code to plan, implement and review
- Run multi-file agentic changes on your own and own the result: you review, test and stand behind every line the agent writes
- Work inside a shared team framework (common CLAUDE.md conventions, skills, hooks and MCP integrations), so everyone builds the same way and can pick up each other's work
- Follow a clear delivery loop: requirements are tested into a PRD, broken into issues, then built in autonomous loops, with tests as the gate
Platform
- Design and deploy serverless services on AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, EventBridge, RDS/PostgreSQL) in TypeScript, with infrastructure in AWS CDK
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions, with automated tests as the release gate
- Build web and mobile front ends in React and Flutter
- Apply least-privilege IAM, secrets management and SSO/Cognito patterns, and instrument with CloudWatch
What you'll bring
- 12+ months shipping production software
- Daily, fluent use of Claude Code (or a similar agentic coding tool) as your main way of writing software. That means planning, delegating and reviewing agentic work, not just autocomplete
- Experience setting up agents for a codebase: CLAUDE.md, custom skills and commands, hooks, MCP servers
- Comfort working within a shared team framework rather than a personal setup
- Strong code review and testing habits. You can tell when an agent has gone wrong, and you can fix it
- TypeScript and AWS serverless, with AWS CDK
- SQL/PostgreSQL schema design and migrations
- Agile delivery experience: user stories, estimation, iteration
- Clear writing. You'll write the prompts, PRDs and docs that agents and teammates rely on
- React or Flutter experience (nice to have)
- A down-to-earth, friendly and professional approach
